Margarito’s License Revoked, Yet Evidence Still Hasn’t Been Fully Tested!

margo5462459By Manuel Perez: In a decision that I find totally wrong today, Antonio Margarito – and his trainer Javier Capetillon – was worked over by the by the California State Athletic Commission, who took away their boxing licenses for a year. I don’t agree with any of this, not one bit. Here we have the evidence, which is the hand wraps themselves, still being analyzed in the lab and won’t be ready until the middle of March, yet both Capetillon and Margarito get their boxing licenses revoked.

margo35322By Chris Williams: Earlier today, Antonio Margarito and his trainer Javier Capetillon had their boxing licenses revoked by the California State Athletic Commission at a hearing in Van Nuys, California, over an issue involving Margarito’s hand wraps before his fight with Shane Mosley on January 24th. Originally, Mosley’s trainer Nazim Richardson felt something was suspicious about Margarito’s hand wraps when he went into the dressing room of Margarito prior to the fight to check out his hand wraps.

Is Margarito The Best Welterweight When Not Being Clinched?

margo63568By Manuel Perez: Shane Mosley proved one thing last week on January 24th, namely that he can beat Antonio Margarito when he’s clinching him often from eight to ten times per round. When Mosley was draped all over Margarito, Shane proved that he’s a better fighter than him at that style of non-fighting. But Mosley’s win didn’t prove that he’s a better overall fighter when you remove the clinching from the action.

Are Punch And Grab Fighters Ruining Boxing?

mosley4543By Manuel Perez: With MMA breathing down the neck of Boxing, I think it’s high time that clinching be disallowed in professional boxing because it’s taking away from the sport. If professional boxing is to compete with Mixed Martial Sports, boxing has to follow amateur boxing and prevent clinching tactics that are used to prevent an opponent from punching. Amateur boxing has long been smart on this subject, prohibiting clinching because they knew that it took away from the sport and kept punches from being thrown.

Margarito Wrap Gate

margo3586454By Manuel Perez: Let me go on record by saying that I see Antonio Margarito being cleared of the wrap gate controversy that surrounds him at this time. Margarito is a true warrior and would never resort to adding hardened substances like plaster of paris to his gloves to get an added advantage. This guy is a straight shooter and wouldn’t lower himself to this level just to get an edge in his fights.

Cotto vs. Margarito II In June?

margarito43535By Eric Thomas: In the latest news from the rumor mill, Miguel Cotto (32-1, 26 KOs) may be facing Antonio Margarito (37-6, 27 KOs) in June for a rematch of their July 2008 fight. It would, of course, depend on Cotto successfully beating British welterweight Michael Jennings in their fight on February 21st for the vacant World Boxing Organization welterweight title. It was thought that Cotto would be facing either Shane Mosley or possibly the winner of the May 2nd fight between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton, but the word has it that Bob Arum wants to go ahead with the Cotto-Margarito fight instead.

Cotto-Margarito II: Is It Worth Taking Place Now?

cotto4624353By Jim Dower: Antonio Margarito may have lost more than just his fight with Shane Mosley last Saturday night, he might have also lost his chance of facing Miguel Cotto in a second fight, which had been under consideration for the Summer. But in losing every round to Mosley, ending with being knocked down twice and stopped in the 9th, Margarito might not be popular enough to fight Cotto at this point.
