Kotelnik says he’s going to kick Alexander’s backside

By Jim Dower: Former World Boxing Association (WBA) junior welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik (31-3-1, 13 KO’s) doesn’t see himself as a potential walking into a lion’s den when he meets IBF/WBC junior middleweight champion Devon Alexander (20-0, 13 KO’s) on August 7th at the Scottrade Center, in Saint Louis, Missouri. On the contrary, the 32-year-old Kotelnik thinks that he’s going to beat the 23-year-old Alexander, saying in an article at the Sportinglife, “They say it’s a long way to9 come for an a– kicking, but I have a question for Devon Alexander after his people have made all these boasts: Will Devon come back and fight me in a rematch in the Ukraine after I kick his a–? There will be an a– kicking, but St. Louis will be surprised who will be doing it.”

Alexander vs. Kotelnik on August 7th – News

Image: Alexander vs. Kotelnik on August 7th – NewsBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten IBF/WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (20-0, 13 KO’s) has finally found an opponent for his next fight and will be facing former World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik (31-3-1, 13 KO’s) on August 7th in Alexander’s home city of Saint Louis, Missouri. It’s kind of an anti-climatic choice for Alexander, as he’s been trying to get fights against WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana. Neither fighter showed much interest in fighting the 23-year-old Alexander, although not because they were afraid of him.

Image: Devon Alexander wants Kotelnik, the only fighter to beat MaidanaBy Sean McDaniel: In more of a sign that Marcos Maidana is the most popular fighter in the light welterweight division, recently spurned IBF/WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (20-0, 13 KO’s) wants to go after former World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik (31-3-1, 13 KO’s) for his next fight. The 32-year-old Kotelnik, a 2000 Olympian for Ukraine, is the only fighter ever to beat the hard-hitting Maidana, beating him by a questionable 12 round split decision a year ago in February. The fight took place in Germany, where Kotelnik now fights and for a lot of people, they felt that Maidana had done enough to get the win.

Froch Calls Khan Boring: What Else Is New?

By Scott Gilfoid: I wonder if World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl Froch just woke up from a 100 year sleep or something, because when he said that he thought Amir Khan looked boring after watching five rounds of his fight with Andriy Kotelnik, it really wasn’t all that enlightening. I hate to break this news to Froch, but Khan has been boring to watch for some time.

khan4523123By Chris Williams: Amir Khan (21-1, 15 KO’s) is being showered with praise since beating paper champion WBA light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik last Saturday night by a 12 round unanimous decision at the M.E.N. Khan’s Victory Over Kotelnik Proves Little

By Scott Gilfoid: While it’s nice that Amir Khan’s chin was able to hold together long enough for him to beat World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik last weekend by a 12-round decision, let’s not get things twisted and make more out of what Khan accomplished that what he did. This was, after all, a handpicked opponent that Khan went after and not a dangerous puncher.

Khan Defeats Kotelnik, Captures WBA light Welterweight crown

khan434By Jim Dower: 2004 Olympic silver medalist Amir Khan (21-1, 15 KO’s) easily defeated World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik (31-3-1, 13 KO’s) by a 12-round unanimous decision tonight to grab Kotelnik’s title at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester. The final judges’ scores were 120-108, 118-111 and 118-111. Kotelnik, 31, never really was competitive in the fight. Khan, 22, had far too much speed and was able to get the better of him in most of the exchanges in the fight. Khan stayed on the move and easily picked off the slower Kotelnik, who seemed at a loss what to do against the constantly moving Khan.
