By Jim Dower: IBF cruiserweight champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez (28-1, 14 KO’s) successfully defended his title on Saturday night in beating #1 IBF Alexander Alekseev (24-3-1, 20 KO’s) by a 10th round knockout at the Stechert Arena in Bamberg, Germany.
Hernandez, 29, nailed Alekseev with a right hook to the head in the 10th round that put him down on his back. Referee Lindsey Page then immediately stepped in and immediately called a halt to the bout at 1:35 of the round due to Alekseev being too hurt to continue.
Hernandez also knocked Alekseev down in the 2nd and 5th rounds with left hands to the head.

Alekseev, 32, has had problems each time he’s stepped it up in class in fights against Firat Arslan, Denis Lebedev, and Victor Emilio Ramirez. 



By Jim Dower: Former 2004 Russian Olympian Alexander Alekseev (18-1, 16 KO’s) defeated American journeyman Kendrick Releford (20-13-2, 10 KO’s) by a 3rd round TKO on Saturday night at the Color Line Arena, in Hamburg, Germany. The fight was stopped after the 3rd round due to a cut over the left eye of Releford, which had opened up in the 1st round. It was a bad cut just above the 27-year-old Releford’s left eyelid.
