maidana74By Yannis Mihanos: Can WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) beat the best pound4pound fighter in the world by beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) on May 3rd? Is Maidana prepared enough? Is he skilled enough? Is he intelligent enough? Is he fast enough?Is he mentally and physically strong enough? Is he lucky enough? These are  some of the questions that pop into my head about two months before the big fight.

These are some of the questions that Maidana must try to answer in the ring. The tough as nails Argentinian is into the biggest match and purse of his career.

Amir Khan: Fight or Flight

khan54By Yannis Mihanos: Since September the name of Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) has been playing along with the name of Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) for a potential match up for his next bout on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. In late February the beans were spilled and the name of WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) was officially revealed at the expense of Amir Khan. Actually it was not surprise at all. The highly entertaining victory over former WBA 147 lb champion Adrien Broner was the decisive factor.

That win had a perfect timing. Boxing’s attention turned o Maidana and more importantly:Floyd’s attention. On the other hand, an inactive Amir Khan was sitting comfortable on his chair and only appearing occasionally as a guest in sport TV channels.
