Maidana has a puncher’s chance. Is that good enough to beat Mayweather?

maidana21By Yannis Mihanos: For many fans the May 3rd fight between number 1 pound for pound king of boxing Floyd Mayweather Jr (45-0) and the WBA welterweight title holder Marcos Maidana (38-3) looks one sided.

Maidana is the explosive fighter from Argentina. As any boxer, Maidana has a puncher’s chance. But is that good enough to defeat the best defensive fighter in recent boxing history?

In boxing they say: all it takes is one punch to change the fight. That’s right to say because Maidana has knocked down many of his opponents (31 out of 38).

Bernard Hopkins faces Beibut Shumenov tonight

hop235(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Yannis Mihanos: This Saturday night a special fight takes place between the ageless IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (54-6-2, 32 KO’s) and WBA light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov (14-1, 9 KO’s) at the DC Armory in Washington, DC. Each age sets limits first in our mind and then in our hearts and bodies. For example, how many Hopkins type fighters do I know in boxing? None. There were maybe few in the past. Why is that?

It is obvious that it comes a time when people in boxing want to retire. They have lost part of their focus, part of their energy, and they feel and look old. Then it is right time to retire, Bernard doesn’t.

To beat Mayweather, Maidana’s only chance is a knockout

mayweather61By Yannis Mihanos: In two weeks’ time from today the number 1 pound-for-pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr (45-0, 26 KO’s) will face WBA welterweight title holder Marcos “El Chino Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) on May 3rd at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on a fight televised on pay per view by Showtime TV channel.

The 37-year-old Mayweather is a heavy favorite for the fight to defeat the 31-year-old Maidana and do it in a convince fashion. Maidana’s recent winning streak (4 victories, 3 by way of KO) has brought him to this big stage.

Pacquiao vs. Bradley 2: Earthquakes will happen on Saturday night

pac0001By Yannis Mihanos: The time for the highly anticipated rematch between Manny Pacquiao and WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley is almost here. In a few hours the weigh in will take place and thousands of followers from both sides have already gathered at the MGM Grand Las Vegas Nevada and wait to give their warm support.

People’s favorite champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (55-5-2) is the favorite to win this match, and everybody in the boxing world still expect him to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., as no one sees other opponent capable enough to threaten the No.1 pound-for-pound king with defeat, but to do that he must first overcome a few obstacles. First, Pacquiao must beat Tim “Desert Storm” Bradley.

Pacquiao – Bradley 2: No more lies on Saturday night

pac125By Yannis Mihanos: Just a few days before the big fight between WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) and Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The knives have already gone out from both sides. Eight time division world champion Pacquiao seems as ready as ever and as aggressive as ever for this fight.

Welterweight champion Bradley appears ready and confident too. In their sparring sessions both looked in tip top shape. Bradley seems overly muscular, and it is obvious to me that his increased body mass index was a main target for the preparation.

Can Maidana KO Mayweather?

mayweather565By Yannis Mihanos: Marcos “El Chino” Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) is the heavy hitter from Argentina. Lately we have seen many heavy hitters coming from this country such as Lucas Matthysse. Maidana has been fighting well of late, and has knocked out his last four opponent since his loss to Devon Alexander in 2012.

By beating convincingly Adrien “The Problem” Broner last December, the win has brought Maidana to where all fighters dream to reach one day to be in the ring against the number 1 pound for pound king of boxing Floyd Mayweather Jr.(45-0, 26 KO’s) on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This by far is Maidana’s greatest challenge. But what now? Can Maidana knockout Mayweather and shock the world? I don’t remember ever seeing Mayweather hitting the canvas in the past, because he is so defense oriented that his opponents finding it extremely difficult not only to knock him out but even to hit him.

Countdown to Pacquiao-Bradley: Is Manny the real favorite?

pac72By Yannis Mihanos: As we are moving closer to this Saturday’s HBO pay-per-view fight between Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) and WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s), experts, fans and tipsters from all around the world are making their own predictions. The fighting pride of the Philippines Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, the number 2 pound for pound in the world of boxing, takes the challenge of facing Bradley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bradley, in his last 2 fights against Ruslan Provodnikov and Juan Manuel Marquez, has proved himself as a tough and skillful fighter, especially on the fight against Provodnikov where he had to go through hell to win the fight by a 12 round decision last year in March.

Countdown to Bradley-Pacquiao 2: What to expect for

pac75By Yannis Mihanos: In less than a week the long awaited rematch between People’s favorite champ Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley will take place at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas Nevada.

Since the announcement of the fight a lot has taken place from both sides. The memories from the first in 2012 are very much alive. That’s because of the controversial ending of that fight: Bradley won by a decision that the judges gifted to him. It was a shameful night for boxing. Unfortunately such results occur quite often in boxing and that’s where it takes its bad reputation.

Manny Pacquiao – Floyd Mayweather: Which of these two has fought the better opposition?

pac671By Yannis Mihanos: The opposition that each fighter faces determines his position in boxing history. A fighter who faces the best and the strongest can be called an all-time great. In boxing today two names – Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr – insist on being mentioned from the mouths of experts and the simple fans.

These two names have grown boxing’s attention so much that it’s inevitable their comparison. And since the day that they will face each other in the ring is still long; all is left is speculations and statistic comparisons and that’s what I will do here.

The dominance of Mayweather Jr in boxing, (professional record 45-0) has been countless times questioned.

What holds future for Pacquiao and why beating Bradley is imperative

pac25By Yannis Mihanos: Eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) is a true pound for pound fighter, having come up from the ranks of boxing since turning pro in 1995. Getting raised in an extremely poor background (his first job was selling donuts in the street), he obviously had to learn life the hard way. He also had to learn boxing the hard way with no help or influence but with hard work and determination. And so he climbed at the top, step by step, obstacle after obstacle. Since 2001, Pacquiao’s been working with prolific and 5 times trainer of the year Freddie Roach.

With Roach on his side, Pacquiao was further catapulted to the top, becoming number 1 pound for pound in boxing. Each of his fights is a bank holiday guaranteed in Philippines.
