Joshua vs Wilder: Flaws. Ducking? Politics?

By Mark McCourt: A hot topic in boxing at the minute for many reasons. This must happen fight seems to have polarised fans. On one hand we have people that believe Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder is the baddest man on the planet, the cream of the crop of heaveyweights. With his ridiculous KO power he has the rest of the division hiding from him especially AJ and his outspoken promoter. On the other we have people  that literally see AJ as the next coming of Muhammed Ali, they seem to think his quick rise to the top of the division and his exciting fight with Klitschko have shown him to be the figurative saviour of the heaveyweight division.

Golovkin’s new opponent?

By Mark McCourt: Since the withdrawal of Saul Canelo Alvarez from the May 5th Cinco D’Mayo fight against Gennady Golovkin speculation has reached fever pitch. We seem to get a new opponent announced almost hourly. The unheralded and unheard-of Jaime Munguia appears that be the newest name thrown into the mix.

Broner vs. Garcia: The best fight no one is talking about?

By Mark McCourt: In only three weeks’ time we have what is sure to be a great match up between Adrien “The Problem” Broner (33-2, 24 Kos) and Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 Kos) on July 29 on Showtime Boxing at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. What interests me is why is nobody talking about it? This is a fantastic matchup.

Canelo vs. Golovkin: Analysis

Image: Canelo vs. Golovkin: Analysis

By Mark McCourt: As the hotly anticipated September 16th fight between Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez quickly approaches its clear a lot if people want to throw the 50 cents in. You have the likes of Errol Spence Jr., Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Andre Berto all picking the redhead Canelo to win. There are some even suggesting by Knockout. You then have others, for example, Danny Jacobs, Gabriel Rosado and Kell Brook (yes, all seem to be prior victims of Golovkin) picking Golovkin to win.

The True World Champions part 1

canelo5666By Markus McCourtus: Boxing as a sport is one of the hardest sports to compete in. The high level of fitness and skill required to compete at a decent level deserves respect, the mental conditioning required is also to be admired.

To prove yourself as a champion in such a sport is tough and requires elite skill and dedication, as to be champion you have to defeat the best (or at least one of the best) guy in the division. Or do you?

At the minute in the boxing world there are 17 weight classes, each weight class generally has 4 recognized world title holders, even more if you include the interim title holders and super and regular title holders, but to keep this simple let’s keep it to 4. So we generally have 68 world title holders.
