Osleys Iglesias has the IBF super middleweight title, but the belt has yet to bring him the division’s biggest names. The Cuban puncher defends against Oliver Zaren this Thursday, October 8, on a Quebec City card featuring meaningful tests beneath the main event.
Iglesias (15-0, 14 KOs) puts his IBF and IBO belts on the line against unbeaten Danish challenger Zaren (19-0-1, 8 KOs) at Théâtre Capitole. The eight-fight Eye of the Tiger show airs on DAZN internationally and Punching Grace in Quebec, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.
His reputation as the division’s boogeyman has some evidence behind it. Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia declined opportunities to face Iglesias for the vacant IBF title earlier this year, although Canelo cited recovery from elbow surgery. Those decisions left Iglesias seeking another opponent rather than securing a marquee fight.
Holding a championship gives Iglesias something to offer, but the commercial leverage still belongs to fighters with larger audiences. Facing an explosive southpaw brings considerable risk without necessarily producing a larger payday than a less dangerous opponent. Another stoppage could strengthen his reputation without making those negotiations easier.
Zaren deserves credit for accepting the challenge. His task is to interrupt Iglesias’ attacks and create room to work. Allowing the champion to dictate the pace would leave Zaren spending too much of the fight defending rather than building a winning performance.
The co-feature gives viewers a direct connection to Iglesias. Wilkens Mathieu (16-0, 11 KOs) defends his NABF super middleweight title against Vladimir Shishkin (17-2, 11 KOs), whom Iglesias stopped in September 2025. Their performances will invite comparison, although different styles make Shishkin an imperfect measuring stick. Mathieu still has to show he can handle an experienced contender.
At lightweight, Dzmitry Asanau (13-0, 7 KOs) faces Luis Santana (16-0, 7 KOs). Both belong to Eye of the Tiger, making this a welcome promotional risk. One prospect could lose his unbeaten record, but the winner gains evidence that he can defeat another developing contender.
Imam Khataev meets Padraig McCrory at light heavyweight, while Leila Beaudoin defends her interim WBA super featherweight title against Brisa Alfonzo.
The appeal extends beyond the nine belts being contested. Mathieu faces an experienced test, and Asanau and Santana must risk their unbeaten records. Iglesias supplies the knockout threat at the top while still chasing the opponents who could establish him as the best at 168.
