Jack Catterall Ready As Teofimo Lopez Deadline Hits Tomorrow

By Boxing News 24 Desk - 10/21/2026 - Comments

Jack Catterall has made it known he is ready to get down to business with the October 22 deadline running out for talks on his ordered WBA welterweight title fight against Teofimo Lopez.

The British southpaw went onto social media while waiting to see if he lands his mandatory crack or gets hit with another postponement.

“READY FOR A FIGHT,” Catterall posted, tagging DAZN Boxing to make sure the network heard him loud and clear.

That puts Catterall’s stance out there in four words. He wants an official date on the calendar, yet the WBA process has not produced one.

Teofimo’s side has tried to get special permission to go after a different opponent, looking into a massive unification clash against Ryan Garcia for early 2027. Catterall stands as the main roadblock for that route because the WBA already issued the order for its super champion to face him next.

Catterall picked up the WBA regular title by beating Shakhram Giyasov back in May. Grabbing that strap put him in direct position for the bout he is trying to nail down right now. Five months have gone by, and he finds himself still stuck waiting for that mandatory pathway to deliver an actual ring return.

The deadline hits at the close of business Eastern Time on Thursday, October 22. It represents the conclusion of the official discussion window set up by the WBA, not an automatic guarantee that Teofimo gets stripped on the spot.

The pending appeal keeps Catterall hanging around for a ruling that will dictate who he faces and how quickly he gets back under the lights. He recently talked about his career being stalled out, and his latest message makes it obvious that no agreement came together behind closed doors.

There is a huge cash reason for Teofimo to chase Ryan Garcia instead. That matchup pulls in massive public interest compared to a mandatory chore against Catterall. Still, Catterall followed every single sanctioning body rule to earn his spot, and a giant commercial payday for the champion does nothing to restore the lost months Catterall spent on the shelf.
