David Benavidez Returns To PPV Against Michal Cieslak

David Benavidez taking on Michal Cieslak on December 5 is landing on DAZN pay-per-view, but convincing boxing fans to shell out extra cash for this one is going to be a tough sell. The fight looks completely lopsided in favor of Benavidez, while Cieslak barely registers with mainstream fans.

Having three cruiserweight belts on the line does not move the needle either. Cieslak picked up the WBC belt simply by getting elevated from interim status. When fans already see someone as a paper champion, handing over an official sanctioning belt does nothing to turn him into a credible threat.

DAZN locked in the date, stamping PAY PER VIEW across the official fight poster alongside PBC. They have not dropped the price tag yet, but asking subscribers to dig deeper into their pockets for this headliner feels overly ambitious.

That puts the heavy lifting squarely on Benavidez. Being an elite talent inside the ring has never guaranteed monster pay-per-view numbers. He brings real fireworks once the bell sounds, but generating buy rates demands relentless promotional buzz outside the ring.

Benavidez rarely brings that promotional heat. He stays relatively quiet between training camps. His media appearances lean dead serious, skipping the colorful banter that grabs casual viewers who do not follow every twist in boxing.

Nobody expects him to fake a circus persona. Still, without that natural promotional spark, his headliners rely heavily on having an electric opponent. Cieslak does not move the needle there at all. Putting Benavidez on pay-per-view without an elite foil exposes the gap between being a respected champion and being a genuine ticket seller.

From a purely competitive standpoint, the move makes sense for Benavidez. Picking up the WBC crown lets him unify alongside his WBA and WBO straps, pushing him closer to a massive clash with Jai Opetaia. Taking the fight serves his personal goals, but that does not give regular fans a compelling reason to buy the broadcast.

Stacking the undercard might soften the blow. Taken solely as a main event, the booking comes across as an uncompetitive mismatch anchored by a single recognizable name whose solo box office power is unproven. Slapping three world titles onto the promotional artwork will not fix that reality.
