Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are heading to London for Wednesday’s press conference, but getting them on the same stage will settle only the first problem facing their December 11 fight.
Mike Coppinger reports that both heavyweights are in training camp and that Turki Alalshikh has spent the past 48 hours pushing to keep the Cardiff event on course.
“All parties are working together to do what’s best to maximize the promotion of this heavyweight super fight Dec. 11 on Netflix,” said Coppinger on X.
The speed of that turnaround says plenty about the pressure on everyone involved. Within days of the announcement, talk of replacement fights had surfaced while Eddie Hearn challenged Dana White’s role in the promotion. Now the two men whose names sell the event are expected to provide its first face-off.
Those replacement possibilities may have increased the pressure to compromise, but there is no evidence they were merely a bluff. Their value to this particular show was limited in any case. A Fury–Joshua stadium promotion cannot simply swap in different fighters and expect to keep the same public interest.
White’s involvement is the more durable issue. For Hearn, the objection goes beyond who stands at a podium on Wednesday. Joshua is Matchroom’s biggest fighter, and this is a British stadium event. Giving White a leading promotional role would put a rival at the center of a show Hearn helped build toward for years. Alalshikh wants the biggest possible launch; Hearn has reason to care who receives the credit and authority afterward.
Joshua’s questions about Fury’s drug testing also remain public. They should be answered on their own terms, rather than dismissed as a negotiating tactic simply because they arose during a commercial dispute.
Wednesday can give Netflix its opening images and reassure fans that Fury and Joshua intend to fight. The stronger test comes after the cameras leave: whether the people behind the event can agree on their roles and keep those agreements through December.
