Tim Bradley Explains Why Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson Could Join Zuffa Boxing

Former champion says extraordinary purses, not opponent concerns, are fueling links between Haney, Stevenson and Dana White’s venture

Tim Bradley believes the financial opportunities available through Zuffa Boxing are the biggest reason Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson continue to be linked with Dana White’s new venture. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Bradley said fighters at the top of the sport may never see another chance to earn comparable money.

“No one’s going to be able to pay them that type of money. It doesn’t matter anywhere else they go, they’re not going to make that type of money,” Bradley said on his YouTube channel.

“We can recall and go back when PBC got established, they were overpaying fighters. Eddie Hearn’s with DAZN, they started overpaying fighters. Right now, it’s the period right now for these fighters, especially at the top tier, if they’re looking to make buku money, it’s the perfect opportunity now.”

“With that being said, that is the reason why I see Haney and also Shakur Stevenson signing on that dotted line,” Bradley said. “How they going to do it, that’s different. How they set their contract, that’s going to be different.”

“You only make this type of money once in a lifetime. This is a perfect opportunity for both of these guys because of the type of life-changing money that they’re going to be getting.”

Stevenson fulfilled his promotional obligations with Matchroom earlier this year after previously departing Top Rank, leaving the WBC lightweight champion without a formal promoter. Haney, meanwhile, has largely handled his career alongside his father, Bill Haney, following previous partnerships with both Matchroom and Top Rank.

Any move involving Haney could still be complicated by his position as WBO welterweight champion. The sanctioning body recently reaffirmed that his mandatory obligation against top contender Keyshawn Davis remains due next, despite discussions surrounding other potential bouts.
