Keith Connolly says Benn has signed the deal, believes Garcia has accepted and expects positive news within weeks
Conor Benn has already signed for a proposed September 12 fight with Ryan Garcia, according to his manager Keith Connolly. The deal is reportedly awaiting resolution of network and broadcast issues before an official announcement can be made.
“We’ve signed on our side. I think Ryan’s accepted it, too. I think they’re working out some issues with the networks. I don’t really want to talk about that. That’s a different area. I have my guy signed for the fight and ready to go, and I think we’ll hear some positive news in the next couple of weeks,” said Connolly to Ring Magazine.
The comments come amid continued uncertainty surrounding the event. Golden Boy Promotions previously raised objections regarding Ryan’s involvement in a fight outside its promotional structure, while questions have also surrounded the broadcast platform.
When pressed on whether a television deal had been finalized, Connolly declined to discuss the matter, repeating that his focus is on Benn being ready for the fight.
Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) last fought on April 11, defeating Regis Prograis by unanimous decision over 10 rounds at a Zuffa event in London. Ryan was last in action on February 21, when he defeated WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios.
While questions remain about the event’s broadcast arrangements, Connolly’s comments indicate that both fighters have moved significantly closer to finalizing the bout. An announcement could follow if the remaining issues are resolved in the coming weeks.
