Jaron Ennis could be back in the ring before the end of the year in one of boxing’s biggest championship fights. According to Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger, talks are underway for a three-belt junior middleweight unification with WBC champion Sebastian Fundora in November or December.
Fundora has rebounded impressively from the only loss of his career, winning four straight fights since Brian Mendoza stopped him in 2023.
Ennis has made a habit of figuring out opponents quickly, but Fundora offers problems that can’t be duplicated in the gym. Fighters with his height, reach and willingness to adapt from fight to fight simply don’t come along very often.
Instead of spending the next year making routine title defenses, Ennis has the opportunity to remove another champion immediately and leave the division with only one remaining belt to chase.
Plenty still has to fall into place before the fight becomes official, but the prize couldn’t be much bigger. Three of the four major world titles would be on the line, leaving the winner just one belt away from the undisputed championship.
