Armando Resendiz Team Calls for VADA Testing vs Jaime Munguia May 2

Trainer Manny Robles questions handling of Munguia’s previous positive test

Armando Resendiz’s team has requested VADA testing for Jaime Munguia ahead of their May 2 fight in Las Vegas, raising concerns following Munguia’s previous positive test. Trainer Manny Robles said the explanation of contamination does not settle the issue.

Trainer Manny Robles told The Ring that the first request raised in discussions was for VADA testing, pointing to Munguia’s recent positive result and the explanation that followed. He said additional safeguards are needed heading into the all-Mexican matchup.

“Absolutely, we’re worried,” Robles said to The Ring. “That’s the first thing I asked for, to make sure there is VADA testing involved. Let’s hope that there will be VADA testing, just to be on the safe side.”

Robles also questioned how Munguia’s result was handled, saying the explanation of accidental contamination did not resolve the issue in his view.

“There are a lot of questions that we don’t have an answer for,” Manny said. “He tested positive. How can they come in and say he’s not at fault? I don’t understand how or why he can be forgiven. When you’re wrong, you’re wrong.”

Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs) enters after a unanimous decision win over Bruno Surace in their rematch last year on May 3rd, while also carrying the fallout from the positive test that was later attributed to contamination involving a legal substance. Despite that episode, he was selected as Resendiz’s next opponent ahead of other names in the mix.

Resendiz, coming off a split-decision win over Caleb Plant that earned ‘Upset of the Year’ honours last May, has remained active in camp while waiting for confirmation of his next fight.

Fans have criticized the section of Munguia as the challenger for Resendiz’s title, considering that his record is 2-2 in his last four fights.

The fight is scheduled for May 2 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as part of a Cinco de Mayo weekend card headlined by David Benavidez vs. Gilberto Ramirez.
