In the co-main event of Most Valuable Promotions’ Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua event, the unified WBO, WBA, and IBF super-featherweight world champion Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner is set to defend her titles in a scheduled 12-round bout against Canadian boxer Leila Beaudoin.
Baumgardner wants to make a statement, while her opponent, Beaudoin, is focused on winning her first world title. The action is set to take place on Friday night, at the Kaseya Center in Miami, live on Netflix.
Back in November 2021, Alycia Baumgardner formally introduced herself to the mainstream when she stopped Terri Harper in the fourth round and won the WBC super-featherweight strap.
A year later, Baumgardner defeated Mikaela Mayer via split-decision and won the WBO, IBF, and The Ring belt. On the night of February 4, 2023, Baumgardner defeated Elhem Mekhaled via unanimous decision and won the vacant WBA belt.
With the victory and the addition of the WBA strap, Alycia Baumgardner became the undisputed super-featherweight world champion. She would go on to make two successful defenses.
Since the WBC does not approve of women boxers fighting 12 three-minute rounds, Baumgardner voluntarily vacated the WBC title. Alycia Baumgardner will place her name in the history books as she will defend her unified title against a very determined opponent.
Leila Beaudoin was a downhill skier who took up boxing as part of her cardio training. Beaudoin developed a passion for boxing and decided to switch sports. She made her debut in October 2019.
In her first pro bout, Beaudoin defeated Tereza Dvorakova via unanimous decision. After winning her next eight fights, Beaudoin’s unblemished record was taken in May 2023 when she was outpointed by Elizabeth Chavez Espinoza.
Eight months later, Leila Beaudoin avenged the loss as she beat Espinoza by way of unanimous decision. Beaudoin would proceed to post a dominant sixth-round TKO victory over Elhem Mekhaled.
Now the challenger, Leila Beaudoin, will step inside the ring and try to capitalize on a golden opportunity. In a championship bout that is scheduled for 12 three-minute rounds, Beaudoin will attempt to pull off a massive upset.
Beaudoin is an aggressive fighter who is accustomed to dictating the pace. She’s a technically sound boxer who utilizes a stiff jab to set up her right hand and her variety of combinations.
The defending champion, Alycia Baumgardner, is a slick boxer who has all the tools. She has a strong jab, excellent footwork, speed, and power; she can box on the outside or fight in the inside.
Styles make fights, and this clash of styles is giving indications that this matchup is going to be an exciting, action-packed bout.
