Mora Urges Haney to Target Red-Hot Conor Benn Next

Sergio Mora says Devin Haney should fight Conor Benn next in his first fight in early 2026.

Mora states that waiting for the unreliable Ryan Garcia isn’t a good move for Haney (33-0, 15 KOs). To keep the momentum going with his career, he should face the “red hot” Benn (24-1, 14 KOs), who is coming off a big win over Chris Eubank Jr. on November 15th.

Haney captured the WBO welterweight title from Brian Norman Jr. last Saturday in Riyadh, beating him by a 12-round unanimous decision. He did the minimum to squeeze past Norman Jr. in that fight. It wasn’t pretty to watch, especially in the second half when Devin held frequently.

“Ryan Garcia is not reliable. So, you’d have to go with Conor Benn,” said commentator Sergio Mora to the Chris Mannix YouTube channel about who Devin Haney should fight next in early 2026.

The problem with Mora’s recommendation is that Haney and his dad, Bill, have shown no interest in fighting Benn since last Saturday. He was in the front row, and he made it clear that he wanted to fight Devin next. Bill Haney questioned why Benn is targeting Devin and not the fighters at 168, 160, and 154.

“Conor Benn is coming off a huge fight [Chris Eubank Jr. rematch] with a lot of eyeballs, he’s red hot, he can sell the fight, and both of them can work with Matchroom. So, it’s a fight that can be made,” said Mora.

Haney may have no choice but to fight Benn if he wants to get a big payday in his next fight. Bill’s choice of WBA welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero isn’t realistic, as he’s reportedly in negotiations to fight Manny Pacquiao in January. If that fight doesn’t happen, Rolly has his WBA-ordered mandatory defense against Shakhram Giyasov.
