Jake Paul was scheduled to participate in a unique matchup versus Gervonta “Tank” Davis, but a legal entanglement caused Davis to be dropped from the bout, and now fight fans are hoping a particular super-middleweight contender is chosen to be the replacement.

In August 2025, an official announcement was made, as Jake Paul was set to face the WBA lightweight world champion, Gervonta Davis. Because of the weight disparity, Most Valuable Promotions experienced difficulties regarding sanctioning the bout in Georgia.

Instead of canceling the fight, the event was moved to the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. Scheduled for November 14th, the Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis clash was labeled as an exhibition bout.

As they kicked off the promotional tour, Jake Paul was in marketing mode, but Gervonta Davis seemed disengaged and uninterested. As a result, fight fans failed to gain interest in the fight, and the Paul vs Davis clash transitioned into must-not-see TV.

Despite the lack of interest from the fans, the event was scheduled to go on until Davis was hit with a civil lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel. Davis is being accused of aggravated battery, kidnapping, and false imprisonment.

Due to the current allegations and his history of domestic violence, Davis was dropped from the event. Now, Most Valuable Promotions is searching for a new opponent, and fight fans want to see Paul face a man who is nicknamed “The Chosen One.”

A product of Brooklyn, New York, Edgar Berlanga started his career by breezing through the first level of competition as he posted sixteen consecutive first-round knockouts. Things became a bit more difficult for Berlanga when he fought better opposition.

Berlanga continued to win, but he faced adversity when he fought various gatekeepers. Berlanga was collecting victories, but he was unable to post the crowd-pleasing knockout.

Finally, after a three-year drought, Berlanga produced a knockout victory in February 2024 when he stopped Padraig McCrory in the sixth round. Seven months later, Berlanga fought for the unified super-middleweight world title, but unfortunately, he was outpointed by Canelo Alvarez.

Berlanga bounced back by stopping journeyman boxer Jonathan Gonzalez Ortiz in the first round. In his most recent ring appearance, Berlanga experienced another setback as he was stopped by Hamzah Sheeraz in the fifth round.

Now the 28-year-old Puerto Rican contender Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (23-2, 18 KOs) is volunteering his services as a replacement for Gervonta Davis. Berlanga posted a video on social media asking Jake Paul to send the contract.

In his last two appearances inside the squared circle, Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) outpointed 58-year-old Mike Tyson and former WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. If he accepts Berlanga’s call-out, it would be the most challenging match of Jake Paul’s pro boxing career.

If the 28-year-old Paul steps up to the Berlanga challenge, it would mark the first time he has fought a traditional boxer who is active, ranked, and in the same age bracket. A Paul vs Berlanga clash is intriguing because it features two boxers who possess devastating knockout power.

As a boxer, Jake Paul showcases a fighting style based on lateral movement, and utilizing a strong jab to set up his power shots. His potential opponent, Edgar Berlanga, is a pressure-style fighter who likes to press forward and walk his opponents down.

A Paul vs Berlanga bout is guaranteed to produce crowd-pleasing action. In addition to entertaining the fans, the Paul vs Berlanga fight makes perfect sense because both boxers will have the opportunity to benefit.

In the case of Jake Paul, a matchup and a victory over a contender such as Berlanga would force the entire boxing community to finally acknowledge Paul’s legitimacy as a pro boxer. Jake Paul has a lot of haters, and his boxing career has received intense scrutiny.

Edgar Berlanga would benefit from this bout by collecting a sizeable paycheck, and increasing his fanbase by knocking out the man some people love to hate, Jake “The Problem Child” Paul.
