“He Might Try to Get Disqualified”: Brian Norman Sr. Doubts Devin Haney Can Survive His Son’s Power

Brian Norman Sr. predicts that Devin Haney is going to get “beat” no matter what he tries against WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. on November 22nd.

Norman Sr. Sees a Quit Job Coming

He says that Haney (32-0, 16 KOs) isn’t going to be able to take what Norman Jr’s (28-0, 22 KOs) is going to be dishing out in their co-feature fight at the ANB Arena in Riyadh. Norman Sr. says Haney may choose to get “disqualified” to take the easy way out, like a sneak.

That’s a strategy that some fighters take when they’re getting the living daylights beaten out of them. They intentionally get disqualified, and then muddy the water by blaming the referee for unfairly stopping the fight, turning it into a conspiracy.

No Way Out for Haney

“He’s going to beat him up either way, but Devin isn’t going to take what he’s going to give him,” said Brian Norman Sr. to MillCity Boxing about how Devin Haney won’t be able to take the punishment that WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. dishes out on November 22nd.

Norman Sr. believes there’s nothing Haney can do to avoid what’s going to happen to him in this fight. Running around the ring, like he did against Jose Ramirez, it’s going to work on November 22nd. He states that Brian Jr. is the bigger fighter with the longer reach.

So, if Haney tried to beat him up from the outside, he’s going to get pieced up using that strategy. In other words, Devin has no choice but to stand and fight Norman Jr, and hope for the best.

Could Devin Pull a Sneaky DQ?

“That’s why I’m trying to figure out if he’s going to try to get disqualified. All that running. Brian is not little. His fans think he’s a masterclass boxer, and when you’re a masterclass, you’re pretty much a perfectionist,” said Norman Sr. about Haney’s fans believing he’s the picture of perfection.

Brian Sr. doesn’t say how Haney would attempt to get disqualified. The only thing that he could do to get DQ’d is by clinching excessively and refusing to let go. That’s not something that would lead to Haney being disqualified, though. If the referee is a quality one, he’ll deduct points from him if he chooses to hold as much as he did against Ryan Garcia. He stood and watched all the holding by Haney. That strategy saved him from being knocked out by Ryan.

Haney’s Size Advantage Gone

“It’s as basic as hell. You’re in there with a little a** guy, and you’re knocking the hell out of him from a distance,” said Norman Sr. about Haney’s not being technically brilliant. He’s just been bigger than his opponents. I’m glad Devin Haney is feeling confident.”

When Haney fought at 135 and 140, he was the bigger fighter than his opponents. In his last fight against Jose Ramirez on May 2, 2025, he didn’t have the size advantage. He won that fight because the former WBC and WBO light welterweight champion Ramirez, 33, was painfully slow. Also, Ramirez fought like he had no ambition and just came for the payday.
