Bill Haney Pushes Rolly Romero Unification for Devin

Bill Haney took to social media today to float the idea of his son,  Devin Haney, facing Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in a welterweight unification fight on the same card as Ryan Garcia’s title fight against 147-lb champion Mario Barrios on February 21st. Ryan challenges Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KOs) for his WBC belt.

Fighting WBA welterweight champion Rolly Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) would be one way for newly crowned WBO 147-lb champion Haney to make himself look good in the public’s eyes if he’s victorious. Rolly defeated Ryan Garcia by a 12-round unanimous decision earlier this year on May 2, 2025, at Times Square in New York. He dropped Ryan in round two and had him looking gunshy from that point on.

“Ryan lost to Rolly on May 20. Now he’s fighting Barrios in February. Rolly hasn’t fought since May, and Devin just became champion in the same division. So why wait on Ryan again? Devin can fight Rolly “NOW”, same day, same card, unification. True or False?” said Bill Haney on X, floating the idea of a welterweight unification between Rolando ‘Rolly Romero and Devin Haney.

“A hell of a champion has spoken. Now let’s make this unification happen. We ready,” said Bill, reacting to former super featherweight champion Jamel Herring backing his idea of a unification clash between Rolly and Haney, calling it a “stay busy” fight for Devin.

Devin (33-0, 15 KOs) captured the WBO welterweight title from champion Brian Norman Jr. last Saturday, beating him by a 12-round unanimous decision on November 22nd in Riyadh. Since capturing the belt, Haney has already been called out by Conor Benn in what would be a lucrative fight. Bill and Devin have shown no interest in this risky fight.
