Shakur Stevenson’s Boast Backfires as Clips of Zepeda ‘Knockdown’ Resurface Ahead of Teo Clash

Shakur Stevenson took to social media today to boast about his exceptional talent. The WBC lightweight champion Shakur (24-0, 11 KOs) believes that his recent victory over William Zepeda on July 12th proved that he’s joined the elite class and is deserving of pound-for-pound status.

Stevenson says, “I’m really like that with this boxing,” meaning, ‘I’m in the elite class.’

Teofimo Views Shakur as Food

The reality is, Shakur’s career could hit rock bottom if WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo (22-1, 13 KOs) beats him. I’ve never seen Teo look so motivated for a fight. He looks wolfish. You can tell he views Stevenson as food.

The Newark, New Jersey native Shakur sounds like he’s trying to pump himself up ahead of his potential fight against Teofimo Lopez in early 2026. Since the fans aren’t praising Stevensons, he’s choosing to do it himself.

Fans’ response to Shakur’s boast:

  • Against B and C-level opponents
  • Get in the ring with someone good for once
  • Prove it
  • Shut up and prove it already
  • Tank is your daddy. ‘You want payday.’
  • Sign the fight with Teo. Stop stalling
  • Why you get Schofield sick?
  • Bum
  • You want to follow behind Crawford, but you don’t want to move like him.

Some of the fans included clips of Shakur being dropped by Zepeda, and the referee, asleep at the wheel, failing to call it a knockdown. That missed call showed what Zepeda was up against in that fight.

Zepeda Made Shakur Look Human

People who saw Shakur’s fight against Zepeda (33-1, 27 KOs) felt that he was a very average fighter, lacking power and depth to his game. All Stevenson did was shell up on the ropes, trying the best he could to block the nonstop incoming punches from Zepeda.

The judges gave it to Stevenson by a wide 12-round unanimous decision, but you can make a strong argument that Zepeda landed enough body shots to earn the victory or at least a draw.
