‘Money Mell’ Charlo: “I Want the Fights That Make Sense and Make Money” — Calls Out Crawford & Ennis

Jermell Charlo is keeping up his campaign pressure on social media to hound Terence Crawford and or Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis to fight him.

Crawford & Boots in His Sights

Calling himself ‘Money Mell’ now, the inactive former undisputed 154-lb champion Jermell looked and sounded desperate for a payday, saying it would be “an honor” to fight Crawford. Jermell says that the “best fight” for Bud and Ennis is against him in the sport.

Three Years Without a Win

For the record, Jermell (35-2-1, 19 KOs) hasn’t won a fight in 3 1/2 years since his tenth-round knockout of the short 5’6 1/2″ Brian Castano on May 14, 2022. That’s a long gap between victories for a fighter, begging Crawford and ‘Boots’ to give him a chance.

In Jermell’s last fight 2+ years ago against Canelo Alvarez, he lost by a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision on September 30, 2023. The scores were 118-109, 118-109, and 119-108. It wasn’t even close because Charlo didn’t even try.

“If they gave me an offer for Crawford, it would be an honor to get in the ring with him today,” said a needy-looking Jermell Charlo on social media. “Becoming undisputed, he completed something that I didn’t complete. So, being in the ring with Crawford would be amazing.”

Terence Doesn’t Need Him

If Jermell were to get ambitious all of a sudden and return to the ring to earn a fight against Crawford, he might get lucky if he beat the top three contenders at 168 for his undisputed belt. Beating these three in the next six months would be the best path for Charlo

  • Christian Mbilli
  • Osleys Iglesias
  • Lester Martinez

I can’t see Jermall, even in the prime of his career, beating any of them. But now, with Charlo 35, turning 36 in early 2026, he would stand no chance against any of those fighters.

So, unless Crawford wants to give Jermell a sympathy fight for old time’s sake, similar to how old, inactive ‘One Time’ Keith Thurman has hustled his way into a title shot at 154, it’s not happening.

Boots Won’t Wait for Yesterday’s King

For Jermell to get a fight against WBA interim 154-lb champion ‘Boots’ Ennis, he needs to show that he deserves the match by beating these three contenders:

  • Israil Madrimov
  • Erickson Lubin
  • Brandon Adams

“I would give him the best fight of today’s era,” said Jermell. “I don’t think there’s no other fight out there in the boxing world for Crawford to make. The best fight would be me. The best fight with ‘Boots’ is me. I really don’t see nobody else. Call me ‘Money’ Mell.'”
