IBF USBA Heavy champ Brandon ‘OJ Bam’ Moore (19-1 (10) easily defeated DeAndre ‘Big’ Savage (10-1-1) by a 10-round unanimous decision on Friday night at the Fox Theater, Detroit, Michigan.
In the first three rounds, the taller (3”) Moore used an effective jab, taking all the rounds. Savage, with 10 knockouts, never went past three rounds. In the fourth through the sixth rounds, Moore landed hard rights on occasion to the chin of Savage, who took them well.
In the seventh round, Savage finally started landing some left hooks. With twenty seconds remaining, Moore landed a right on the chin of Savage for an 8-count from referee Ansel Stewart.
In the ninth round, it was all Moore, looking for a stoppage. In the tenth and final round, Moore continued shutting out Savage, using his jab for the most part, except landing a solid right on the chin with a minute remaining. For the last two rounds, Savage had tape hanging from his right glove that the referee never seemed to notice.
The scores were 100-89, 10,0-89, and 99-90.
In the co-Main event, Olivia Curry (7-2-2 (2) ended in a 10-round majority draw with former Australian champ Kaye Scott (4-1-1) for the vacant WBC and WBA Female middleweight titles. Scott got a vote and looked to have an edge.
In the first round, it was Scott who had a reported 100 amateur fights (47-26, according to Boxrec), battering Curry. In the second round, Scott controlled until the final minute when Curry landed well to the body. In the third round’s midway point, Curry’s left eyebrow was cut, possibly from a clash of heads, but referee Ben Rodriguez called it a punch.
In the fourth through the seventh rounds, it was close with both having their moments in an all-action fight. In the eighth round, Scott took the first half with Curry taking the remaining round.
In the ninth round, Curry suffered a lump on her forehead. It was another action round. In the tenth and final round, Scott drew blood from the nose of Curry, who kept fighting back in another action round.
The scores were 98-92 Scott, 95-95, and 95-95.
Super middleweight DeVelle ‘Cadilac’ Smith (14-0 (9) stopped Janer Gonzalez (24-9-1 (20) at 2:59 of the second round of a scheduled eight rounds.
In the first round, Smith, out of the Kronk Gym, had a good round against Gonzalez, who was moving up in weight. In the second round’s final minute, Smith dropped Gonzalez with a right on the chin for a count from referee Ansel Stewart, barely beating the count. In the final seconds, Smith again dropped Gonzalez, who took the count on his knee.
Heavy southpaw Sardius Simmons (4-0 (2) beat late sub tough Lemir ‘Bang’ Isom-Riley (5-7 (3) by a six-round unanimous decision.
In the first two rounds, Simmons outlanded Isom-Riley, who took a good punch. In the fourth round’s final minute, Simmons landed half a dozen unanswered punches. In the final seconds, it was Isom-Riley turning things around, having Simmons backed into a corner at the bell.
In the fifth round’s midway point, Simmons rocked Isom-Riley with a lead left on the chin. Isom-Riley seems to come back time and time again, though losing all five rounds. In the sixth and final round, it was Isom-Riley who had his best round, possibly winning it in a close round.
The scores were 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55. Ben Rodriguez was the referee.
Light heavyweight Kahmel Makled (4-0 (3) defeated Christian Juresic (2-2) by a six-round points decision.
