Turki Alalshikh revealed today that he met with superstar Canelo Alvarez, confirming with him that he still has two fights left on his contract with Riyadh Season. He offered Canelo to work with him until he retires.
The Fallout From a Humiliating Loss
The two remaining fights that Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) has on his contract with Riyadh Season are expected to occur in May and September 2026. No opponents have been mentioned. Ideally, what Canelo, 35, needs are fighters who are aggressive, come forward, and don’t move around the ring.
In Canelo’s 12-round unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford last Saturday night at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, he struggled to cut off the ring on him. Crawford would land and then take off. It was the same style that William Scull used against Canelo on May 3, but with slightly more offense and less power.
If Canelo wins his next two fights in 2026, it’s possible he might choose to continue his career into 2027. It’ll depend on a lot of things. He’s got to be matched against the right type of fighters for him to win next year. It would be the same thing with the aging Crawford.
If Turki pushed Crawford hard to fight David Benavidez or Dmitry Bivol, he’d likely lose to both. He’d be the one who would be unhappy, but wealthier. Crawford already ruled out fighting Benavidez today.
The Dignity Stripped Away
In Canelo’s case, he chose not to say no to Turki, even though it was a bad style for him fighting the mover Crawford. Not only that. It put Alvarez in a position where he would be humiliated if he lost, and that’s what happened. He still chose to take the fight with Crawford, but it came at a high cost, with his dignity stripped away.
I just visited the champ in his place. He will soon start his vacation with his family. He has 2 fights left with @RiyadhSeason in ’26. We offered him to work with us until he quits and retires. I want go give a special thank you to @Canelo for the special gift. He gave me the… pic.twitter.com/7VqrZ3DEoI
