Vergil Ortiz Jr’s father, Vergil Sr., refutes what Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn says that he’s “signed Jaron Ennis to fight Vergil Ortiz” in 2026.
Ortiz Jr. Camp Denies Jaron Ennis Bout
Vergil Jr’s dad posted on X less than an hour ago that he hasn’t “heard anything.”
Why on Earth would Hearn tell the media that he’s signed Ortiz Jr. to fight his guy, ‘Boots’ Ennis, for 2026? Is it to get the pressure off himself to show Boots that he’s trying to do something to be useful? Telling the media that a fight with Vergil Jr. has been signed for next year is one way of getting the heat off.
Ennis would be naively thinking to himself, ‘My promoter, Hearn, is a real go-getter. I’m glad I re-upped for another hitch with Matchroom.’
Does Ennis even want the fight? With the talk of him wanting two tune-ups to get comfortable with the 154-lb division, it doesn’t seem believable that he would sign for a risky fight against Vergil Jr.

I didn’t know Eddie Hearn was vergils mgr and told Vergil when he fights. I haven’t heard anything and it’s not a hey Vergil you fight my guy when I want. That shit has sailed twice. Vergil is on his own path no matter WHO ANYONE SAYS. No waiting for anyone anymore . https://t.co/QTMQjq0F2u

NOBODY has come to us for a 3rd TIME for that fight. We are still about 2025 not 2026 or 2027. Like they have done what’s best for them. We will be moving on with our schedule regardless of who says.
