Heavyweight contender Filip Hrgovic (19-1, 14 KOs) administered a pure beatdown on the badly overmatched David Adeleye (14-2, 13 KOs), winning a wide 10-round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Hrgovic had Adeleye down in round eight from a right hand to the head. When Adeleye got back, he stuck his tongue out at Hrgovic and went after him with a barrage of powerful punches that had him close to going down. How he took those heavy shots from the British fighter Adeleye is hard to know.

The scores were 99-91, 99-90, and 99-90.

After the eighth, Adeleye had nothing left in the gastank, having punched himself out. He was just there in body only, soaking up big punches thrown at close quarters by the 2016 Olympic bronze medallist.

Adeleye, 28, was wild with his punches throughout the contest, and was countered by the short, accurate arm punches from Hrgovic. Some of the punches that Adeleye missed would have done damage if he’d connected on them, but he was too wild. Hrgovic’s amateur background allowed him to get out of the way of the primitive attempts from Adeleye to hit him.

The fight showed that Adeleye lacks the skills to mix it up with a fighter of Hrgovic’s class because he looked like he didn’t belong inside the ring with him. You’ve got to give Adeleye some credit for staying in there and taking the shots, but that’s about it. Hrgovic had too much of an advantage over him in the skills department.
