Negotiations have already crumbled for the Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney mini-mega fight on August 16th in Saudi Arabia. There’s no word on what the cause of the collapse was, but it’s likely one of these two prima donnas priced themselves out by asking for more than Turki Alalshikh was willing to pay. One of these two wanted a goldmine, and it wasn’t happening.
Lopez’s Tough Bargaining Style
It was predicted last night that the negotiations would quickly fall apart between Teo and Haney, leaving them both where they started. For fans familiar with Teofimo, they’re not surprised if he’s the one who caused the talks to fall apart. He’s a hard bargainer in negotiations.
“Negotiations have collapsed for a proposed fight between Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez on Aug. 16 in Riyadh, Ring Magazine has learned. Haney and Teofimo both scored wide-decision wins on May 2 in Times Square,” said Mike Coppinger on X, revealing the bad news.
Haney’s Dad Confirms Collapse
Devin’s dad, Bill Haney, posted on X today, confirming that the talks have collapsed for the Lopez fight. However, just moments ago, he deleted the post. So, perhaps that’s a sign that the negotiations are back on.
Both Haney, Lopez Need Fight
These two are needy right now. Neither can afford to mess up negotiations for this fight, as their options for other compelling fights are slim. Haney, 26, is campaigning at welterweight now, but the division lacks notable names that he can fight to enjoy the kind of money that he received in his last two contests against Jose Ramirez and Ryan Garcia.
Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) and Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs) both looked horrible in their fights on Turki’s card on May 2nd at Times Square in New York. Of the two, Teofimo looked the worse because he was showboating, clowning, and not even trying to fight his opponent, Arnold Barboza Jr.
At least with Haney, he stepped it up in the second half, dominating Jose Ramirez, and looked decent. Still, he looked like he was experiencing flashbacks at times from his previous fight against Ryan Garcia.
