Haney Roasted for ‘Begging’ Turki Alalshikh for Lopez Fight

Fans on social media are heavily criticizing Devin Haney for posting on X, saying he’ll “handle” an unnamed opponent thought to be Teofimo Lopez and tagging Turki Alalshikh.

Haney’s Desperate X Post

People view this post as begging by Haney (32-0, 15 KOs), who is needy after his hopes for a rematch with Ryan Garcia imploded with his loss on the May 2nd card.

Fans on X view Devin’s begging as embarrassing, perceiving it as a sign that he’s “on his hands and knees,” urging Turki to give him the Teofimo fight. They want Haney to show some backbone and move on. That fight is up in smoke now.

There had been a report that negotiations were underway for an August 16th catchweight fight at 145 pounds in Riyadh. However, Teofimo’s rant on X this week may have ruined those plans. Lopez claims that he was “fired” by Alalshikh and is now seeking a new job.

The belief among fans is that Devin is counting on Turki to save his sinking career by securing him fights that he doesn’t rate based on his last two performances. Haney looked awful in his win over Jose Ramirez at Times Square, running around the ring all night.

What’s troubling is that Haney was reportedly paid $10 million for that fight, but didn’t show any obligation to entertain. That performance by Devin was like a loss in some ways, because of the running.

Fans Want Haney Fired

Some fans want Turki to “fire Devin too, he’s boring,” wanting Alalshikh to sweep Devin out along with Teo. Just start over with new blood after getting rid of the dead weight. Haney has shown that he’s unable to entertain.

People don’t have a lot of interest in seeing Haney fight Teofimo, especially if it’s going to be sold on PPV. They feel that Haney’s low-action style and overly defensive approach will make a fight between him and Lopez boring. Fans would rather see Teofimo fight someone entertaining to watch, such as Gary Antuanne Russell or Subriel Matias, at 140
