Kambosos Jr. to Headline March Australia Card: Hearn Eyes Top 15 Clash for Former Champ

Eddie Hearn says George Kambosos Jr. will headline a show in Australia in March. He doesn’t say who the former unified lightweight champion will fight, but he states it’ll be a top 15 contender in his debut at 140.

‘The Emperor’ Kambosos is going through a rough patch in his career right now, losing three out of his last four fights, and is viewed as a textbook example of a one-hit-wonder.

George pulled off a miracle upset of Teofimo Lopez in 2021 and made millions from that brief success. However, it’s been downhill for Kambosos ever since, losing twice to Devin Haney and getting knocked out by Vasily Lomachenko. He’s a flash in the pan.

“Bum” Hitchins in Kambosos’ Sights

Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) says he’ll challenge Richardson Hitchins for his IBF light welterweight title in the summer. Referring to the unbeaten New Yorker as a “bum,” Kambosos is confident that he’ll defeat him to become a two-division world champion.

Hitchins ruined Hearn’s plans for a big Australian clash by defeating IBF140-lb champion Liam Paro by a 12-round unanimous decision last month on December 7th. Hearn had hoped to match Kambosos and Paro in a big Aussie batch in 2025, as that fight would have sold big for the Australian market.

Update: Hitchins could be fighting WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez in a unification in the summer as part of Turki Al-Sheikh’s three-fight deal with Teo. Kambosos may have to look in another direction for a fight, perhaps an all-Australian match between him and the recently defeated Paro. Obviously, it won’t have a world title at stake, but there will be good money for the already wealthy Kambosos Jr. to enjoy.
