Unheralded super middleweight Bruno Surace (26-0-2, 5 KOs) pulled off a big upset, knocking out favorite Jaime Munguia (44-2, 35 KOs) in the sixth round of a scheduled ten-round fight on Saturday night at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, Mexico.
Surace was getting worked over by the former WBO junior middleweight champion Munguia through five rounds. However, in the sixth round, Surace connected with a picture-perfect right hand that sent Munguia down on the canvas. The badly hurt Munguia got back to his feet but looked out on his feet, prompting the referee to stop the fight.
Munguia started having problems after the third round, getting caught with hard shots from Surance, who is not a puncher, but he had a sneaky way of throwing.

– Unbeaten super bantamweight contender Alan Picasso (31-0-1, 16 KOs) outclassed his replacement opponent Yehison Cuello (13-3-1, 11 KOs) in the third round of a scheduled ten-round fight. Picasso, 24, landed a beautiful left to the body in round three that put the Colombian Cuello down on the canvas. The referee then counted him.
The tall 5’8″ Picasso’s skills were on another level, landing lefts to the body with perfect form from the first round and getting out of the way of Cuello’s hard punches. Cuello was loading up on everything.
When he would connect at times, you could hear the sound of the impact. He definitely had power. By the third round, Picasso was in full control of the fight, and it was only a matter of time before got the knockout.
With this victory, Picasso stays in the loop for a fight against undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue. He’s one of the fighters who is in the running for Inoue’s title defense after his January 24th fight against Sam Goodman.
