Lightweight prospect Curmel Moton (5-0, 4 KOs) obliterated a badly overmatched Victor Vazquez (5-3-1) by a first round knockout on Saturday night at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico, Mexico City.
The 18-year-old Moton backed Vazquez up with jabs and power shots to the ropes. He then unloaded with a four-punch combination that dropped Vazquez near the ropes.
Although Vazquez appeared to beat the count, the referee waved it off anyway. The referee likely realized Vazquez’s hopeless situation, so he stopped the fight without letting it play out for another knockdown. The contest was halted in 55 seconds of the first round.

Moton showed excellent power and good hand speed in his performance. It would have been nice to see a little return fire from his opponent, Vazquez, but he didn’t seem up to it.
Vazquez had missed almost every punch he threw and looked like he’d been picked up from the street and thrown in the ring to be Moton’s punching bag. He didn’t show any skills and was basically useless for Moton to gain experience from fighting him.
Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (33-7-3, 25 KOs) defeated Rodrigo Damián Coria (13-6, 2 KOs) in an eight-round victory in an exhibition match.
