Tim Bradley Backs Ortiz, Questions Teofimo’s Victory

Boxing expert Tim Bradley says he thinks Jamaine Ortiz won the fight against WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez last Thursday night, and he doesn’t agree with the decision the three judges handed down, giving Teo the win.

Bradley feels that Ortiz (17-2-1, 8 KOs) was brilliant by choosing to fight out of the southpaw stance and backing up the entire fight.

He notes that Teofimo doesn’t fight as well coming forward as he does going backward, and Jamaine took advantage of this. The judges gave the win to Teofimo by the scores 115-113, 115-113 and 117-111.

Bradley doesn’t say what his scores were, but it wouldn’t be a shock if he had Jamaine winning by four rounds or more.

Ortiz’s Strategy Shined

“That’s what I thought. I thought Jermaine won the fight, too,” said boxing expert Tim Bradley to the media, commenting on Teofimo Lopez’s win over Jamaine Ortiz on Thursday night, a victory that many boxing fans disagree with.

“I understand you can’t win a championship backing up. It’s a strategy, bro. Come on, it’s a strategy, and that’s what you got to do in boxing. Some fights are won that way.

Teofimo’s Limitations Exposed

“You’ve got to use a strategy based on your strengths to take away your opponent’s weaknesses, and that’s what Jamaine Ortiz truly did. He took away his weaknesses. He didn’t let him set his feet.

“He went southpaw from the opening bell. I swear this dude must have been in my camp. He must have been in my house or my head because that’s exactly what I was thinking.

“Fight from the southpaw stance. Do exactly what Sandor Martin did. Fight of his backfoot. Invite Teo because we know he don’t fight that well on his front foot, although they say they’ve been working on it, and then counter him.

“That’s exactly what he did, and he did it all night,” said Bradley.
