Crawford Sparks Canelo Rumors: Could He Be the Cinco de Mayo Mystery Opponent?

Terence Crawford is in training, looking like he’s trying to acclimate himself to 168. Some fans on social media wonder if he could be Canelo Alvarez’s next opponent on May 4th, Cinco de Mayo.

Could he be Canelo’s mystery opponent next? Crawford looks to be going through a body transformation for what could be his lucky opportunity. Canelo told Box Azteca on Tuesday that he’ll be fighting an American next, and it’s believed Crawford is one of the three being considered. The other two are Jermall Charlo and David Benavidez.

Size Matters

Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) looks like he’s been power-feeding since his win over Errol Spence Jr. last July, and the logical reason why he’d be packing on the pounds is to get ready in case he’s picked by the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo for his May 4th fight.

If the 36-year-old Crawford is going to be ready if he wins the Canelo sweepstakes on May 4th, he’s got to be bulked up and good to go. We know Canelo has surprised opponents, selecting them out of the blue and catching them when they’re not in prepared.

With the gold bullion that Crawford can make from a fight against Canelo, he won’t refuse the offer because saying no to the Mexican star is the end. There will never be another offer from Canelo if Crawford or any opponent refuses him.

Crawford has gained weight and appears to have lost some speed, and his hairline looks like it’s gone out with the tide in the last six months. That’s how it is for a fighter who has reached their mid-30s. They rapidly age overnight and look unrecognizable suddenly, which is another reason why Crawford has to be ready.

Mystery Fight on Cinco de Mayo

Canelo failed to reveal his opponent today during his interview with the Mexican TV station Box Azteca, which could indicate that he’s waiting to surprise the lucky opponent. If Crawford, it’ll be interesting to see if he agrees to face him on May 4th or says he needs more time.

As this writer said, that would be the kiss of death, and Crawford has got to know that if he refuses Canelo’s offer, that’s it.  No mas. That’s why Crawford appears to be working at a feverish pace to get ready in case he gets that call. It’s smart.
