By Vince D’Writer: Undisputed featherweight world champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (45-2-1, 30 KOs) has developed a habit of making history, and once again, she will be part of a historic event when she faces Danila Ramos (12-2, 1 KO) in the first-ever women’s unified title bout that consist of 12 three-minute rounds.

Most Valuable Promotions entered the boxing arena with the goal of disrupting and transforming the sport of boxing. The special stipulation that’s been put in place for the Serrano vs. Ramos unification bout definitely meets the criteria.

The Serrano vs. Ramos event seeks to set a new standard for women’s boxing, one that hasn’t been seen since Layla McCarter vs. Melissa Hernandez back in 2007. This groundbreaking unification match will take place on Friday, October 27th, at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida, live on DAZN.

Amanda Serrano made her pro boxing debut back in March 2009 when she defeated Jackie Trivilino by 4th round majority decision. Eight months later, boxing legend Manny Pacquiao beat Miguel Cotto and became boxing’s first seven-division world champion.

In the tenth year of her professional boxing career, Amanda Serrano joined Manny Pacquiao when she knocked out Eva Voraberger in the 1st round and became the second fighter in boxing history to accomplish the feat of becoming a seven-division world champion.

Currently, Amanda Serrano is enjoying a fourteen-year career that has to be categorized as legendary. When it comes to the word history, Serrano has routinely linked her name to that particular term.

In addition to becoming one of two boxers to win a world title in seven different weight classes, Amanda Serrano along with Katie Taylor, made history back in April 2022 when they became the first female boxers to headline at Madison Square Garden.

The match at Madison Square Garden was an event that Amanda Serrano had to share the accolades with Katie Taylor, but ten months later, Serrano stood alone in the spotlight. On February 5, 2023, Serrano defeated Erika Cruz and became the first Puerto Rican boxer to win an undisputed world championship.

Now, Serrano is on the verge of yet again making more history on October 27th. In women’s boxing, the structure is normally 10 two-minute rounds, but Amanda Serrano has been an advocate as it relates to transitioning to the men’s boxing format of 12 three-minute rounds.

“Together, on Friday, October 27, we will make history and prove to the world once again how incredible women’s boxing is and that we are just as tough, dynamic, and capable as any man in the ring, if not more so. This is a fight for women everywhere to be treated the same as their male counterparts,” Serrano said in a recent statement.

The WBO mandatory challenger Danila Ramos will enter the unification bout riding a four-fight win streak. Ramos is prepared to capitalize on her opportunity to fight for the unified title, and she’s also looking forward to participating in a bout that has such historical significance.

“Fighting Amanda Serrano for 12 three-minute rounds for a unified championship is set to break barriers that we women have been looking to do for many years,” Ramos stated. “We will go down in history, and in the books, it will be a fight of two women warriors.”

Ramos went on to say, “I am preparing like never before for this fight and will proudly represent Brazil as we battle in Orlando, Florida, and I look to bring all the belts home.”

Amanda Serrano is the undisputed featherweight champion, but on the night of October 27th, she will only defend her WBO, WBA, and IBF titles. Serrano’s WBC belt won’t be on the line due to the fact that WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman isn’t in favor of sanctioning three-minute per-round fights because he considers it a safety issue.

A 2020 study published in the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine concluded that female athletes appear to sustain more severe concussions than their male counterparts due to a lower biomechanical threshold tolerance for head impacts. However, in another case study a year later in regard to head trauma, concluded that there was no significant difference.

Taking the science out of the equation, 12 three-minute rounds are something that the majority of professional female boxers want for their sport. We will get a glimpse of what it looks like on October 27th, and if it has a successful test run, it could possibly become the new normal in women’s boxing.
