Jack Catterall, the WBA Intercontinental Title holder in the Super-Lightweight division, will defend his title against the renowned multi-division World Champion, Jorge Linares. This make-or-break fight is set to take place at M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on Saturday, October 21, and will be broadcast LIVE on DAZN.

Catterall, with a record of 27 wins and only one loss with 13 of those wins coming by knockout, is eager to challenge once more for the Super-Lightweight World Title. This determination stems from his controversial defeat to the former undisputed Super-Lightweight World Champion, Josh Taylor, in early 2022.

Linares, who boasts a record of 47 wins and 8 losses with 29 knockouts, aims to further establish his presence in the booming 140lbs division. He’s keen to maintain his undefeated streak in the UK and halt Catterall’s aspirations of another World Title fight.

Eddie Hearn, Chairman of Matchroom Sport:

“On October 21st, Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena will host the intriguing fight at 140lbs between Jack Catterall and Jorge Linares, broadcast LIVE on DAZN. Here with me are Jack Catterall, Jorge Linares, and their managers, Sam Jones and Roberto Diaz. This promises to be an intense contest. Jorge Linares, having been to the UK multiple times, remains unbeaten by us. However, his next visit will see him in what some might call his final chance in the big-stage fights at 140lbs. His training and the fervor evident in his preparation depict a very driven fighter. On the other side, Jack Catterall is considered by many as the rightful 140lbs World Champion, aiming to showcase his skills against a top-contender before stepping into the global championship arena in 2024.”

Jack Catterall:

“Thanks to Eddie, Robert, and Linares for this chance. When I was offered this fight weeks ago, I immediately told Sam, ‘let’s do it’. My objective in boxing isn’t to easily build up a record but to challenge myself against the best. Linares’ motivation evident from his training videos spurs me on to work even harder. We both aim to give the fans an exhilarating fight, but my ultimate goal is to triumph. Recognizing Linares’ impending Hall of Fame induction, it’s only right to show respect and not discuss future fights now. My team and I remain focused solely on defeating Linares, honoring his reputation by training diligently for our October 21st contest. It’s thrilling since Linares has consistently won in our territory. Now, it’s my turn to defend and conquer.”

Sam Jones, Jack Catterall’s Manager:

“I’ve witnessed Jorge’s dedication firsthand. People may judge him by past losses, but I’ve seen those very losses drive him. Jorge’s work ethic and respect I hold for him prevent me from speaking ill. In terms of training zeal, Jack mirrors Jorge. He is disciplined, diligent, and lives a healthy life. I believe the dynamics between the experienced Jorge and young Jack signify it’s time for Catterall to shine. Although Jorge poses a challenge to any boxer, I have immense respect for him. When I heard he returned to train with Salas, I knew it signaled a make-or-break fight. Their rapport is incredible, and given Salas’ trust, we expect a riveting contest.”

Jorge Linares:

“I’m filled with gratitude. I always maintain a disciplined lifestyle both inside and outside the gym. Having lived 20 years in Japan, which contrasts vastly with the U.S and Latin America, has shaped me. A heartfelt thank you to Eddie, Jack, Sam, and Roberto Diaz for this opportunity to return to the UK. Engaging with top fighters here has always been a dream. Now, my drive equals that from almost a decade ago. This is a crucial fight, and I plan to give spectators an unforgettable experience. The weight of defending my titles in the UK feels immense. This is especially challenging since I’m recovering from a loss. Yet, I know winning will usher in grand opportunities.”

Roberto Diaz, Jorge Linares’ Manager:

“Thanks to Eddie and all associated with Matchroom and DAZN, and to team Jack Catterall for this chance. Jorge is approaching the twilight of his career, but his current motivation reminds me of his prime days. Having defeated British fighters thrice in the UK, we’re aiming for a fourth victory. We recognize and appreciate Jack’s unbeaten record, but come October 21st, we believe it will be tarnished.”
