Boxing results: Zhang KO’s Joe Joyce!

By Ken Hissner: At Wembley Arena, Wembley, London, UK, Saturday over ESPN+ promoter Frank Warren (Queensberry Promotions) presented in the Main Event the rematch between 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist and current WBO Interim Heavyweight champion and former 2016 Olympic Silver Medalist and the WBO Interim Heavyweight champion Zhilei ‘Big Bang’ Zhang stopped Joe ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce again this time at 3:07 of the third round.

In the Main Event in a rematch WBO Interim Heavy champ southpaw Zhilei ‘Bang Bang’ Zhang, 26-1-1 (21), #287 ¼, of Zhokou, China and Bloomfield, NJ, stopped Joe ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce, 15-2 (14), #281 ¼, of Putney, London, UK, at 3:07 of the third round of a scheduled 12 rounds.

In the first round neither boxer landed anything but a jab. In the second rounds halfway point Zhang rocked Joyce with a lead left on the chin. In the final 30 seconds Joyce landed a combination to the chin of Zhang In the final seconds Zhang rocked Joyce with a left on the chin.

In the third round Zhang landed a lead left to the chest followed by a vicious right hook to the chin of Joyce and down he went face first. He struggled to get up in no condition to continue when Referee Steve Gray wisely waved it off.

WBC Int’l Silver Super Lightweight champion Pierce ‘Big Bang’ O’Leary, 13-0 (7), #139 ½, of Dublin, IRE, defeated Kane ‘Sugar Kane’ Gardner, 16-3 (7), #139 ¼, of Beswick, Lancashire, UK, over 10 rounds.

In the fifth round O’Leary was cut over the left eye.

Scores were 100-90 and 99-92 twice.

Super Middleweight Zach Parker, 23-1 (17), #172, of Woodville, Derbyshire, UK, stopped Khalid Graidia, 10-13-4 (2), #169, of Geneva, SWZ, at the end of 7 rounds of a scheduled 10 rounds.

Referee was John Latham

Light Heavyweight Ezra ‘The Cannon’ Taylor, 7-0 (5), #176, of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, UK, stopped Joel ‘El Toro’ McIntyre 20-8 (5), #178 ¼, of Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK, at 2:59 of the 8th and final round.

Referee was John Latham

Heavyweight Moses ‘Enriko’ Itauma, 5-0 (3), #238, of Chatham, Kent, UK, stopped Amine ‘The Beast’ Boucetta, 7-9 (0), #228 ¼, of Ras El Ma, Morocco, Ghent, Oost-Vlannderen, BELG, at 1:33 of the first round of a scheduled 6 rounds.

In the first round Itauma had Boucetta down twice before Referee Marcus McConnell called a halt.

Light Heavyweight Anthony Yarde, 23-3 (22), #178, of Ilford, Essex, UK, Jorge ‘Gentleman’ Silva, 22-8 (12), #178, of Matosinhos, PORT, @2:07 of the second round of a scheduled 10 rounds.

In the first two rounds it was like a sparring session as late sub Silva was a poor opponent. In the second round chopping rights to the head and a right to the body in between and Silva hit the canvas forcing Referee Marcus McDonnell to wave off the mismatch.

Super Featherweight southpaw Royston Barney-Smith, 7-0 (3), #131 ¾, of Southampton, Hampshire, UK, defeated Engel ‘El Cohete’ Gomez, 8-18-1 (4), #132, of Chinandega, NIC, over 6 rounds.

Referee Marcus McDonnell scored 60-52.

Welterweight Sean Noakes, 6-0 (3), #151 ¾, of Maidstone, Kent, UK, defeated Lukasz Barabasz, 2-9 (1), #154, of Mikolow, POL, over 6 rounds.

Referee John Latham scored it 59-54

Heavyweight Tommy ‘The Norfolk Nightmare’ Fletcher, 6-0 (5), #199 ¼, of Thetford, Norfolk, UK, stopped Alberto Tapia, 3-5 (2), #197 ½, of Oviedo, Principado de Asturias, SP, at 1:28 of the fourth round of a scheduled 6.

Tapia was down 5 times before his corner threw in the towel. Referee was Marcus McDonnell.
