By Sean Jones: An angry-looking Canelo Alvarez met with challenger Gennadiy Golovkin for a face-off today at their grand arrivals in Las Vegas for their trilogy match this Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena.

Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) walked up on his old nemesis Golovkin on the stage, looking like he wanted to slug him with an overhand right in the same way he did in the opening seconds of their rematch in 2018.

You could tell from the way that Golovkin’s cat-like reflexes were primed that he was ready for anything from Canelo. After all, we all remember how Canelo shoved Caleb Plant across the stage during their face-off and then slapped sunglasses off his head, causing an abrasion.

With that kind of track record, it’s unsurprising that Golovkin looked ready to block incoming fire from Canelo. The Mexican star Canelo, 32, is still bummed out about some mild comments Golovkin made about him in the past.

Rather than forgetting about it like a mature adult, Canelo has been stewing on his anger and is talking about wanting to knock the 40-year-old Golovkin out and stand over him in victory. Canelo also said he wants this to be the last fight for Golovkin, as he wants to knock him into retirement.

“Definitely in the U.S. The Billy Joe Saunders [vs. Canelo Alvarez fight] was massive with 74,000 people, but this fight, a trilogy between two icons in the modern generation of boxing,” said Eddie Hearn to iFL TV about today’s grand arrive in Las Vegas between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin.

“You could see from the turnout here; it’s going to be absolutely mental at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday. I think we’re going to get an unbelievable fight. I think it’s an unbelievable fight card from top to bottom, and they’re going to face off in 20 minutes here.

“It’s not a day that goes by without aggravation and something going wrong in boxing. But every now and then, you’ve got to pinch yourself and say, ‘We are in the lobby of the MGM Grand, and I am promoting Canelo vs. Golovkin III with our amazing team from Matchroom Boxing. We’re just a little company from Essex here taking over the boxing world.’ We should take every second in this week,” said Hearn.
