By Daniele D’Alessio – In a recent interview with talkSport, former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker claimed his team is trying to schedule a fight with Joe Joyce next.

“We’re working on the fight with Joe Joyce, I think that’ll be a great fight, number one, number two in the WBO and he’s avoided and he’s a tough fighter. I’d love to get in there and face him”.

Parker is coming off an impressive victory against Dereck Chisora where he dominated the veteran over 12 rounds to claim a unanimous decision. Likewise, Joyce stopped Carlos Takam in the 6th round back in July 2021.

When asked if negotiations have started, Parker stated that they are looking to make a deal soon.

“We’re working on a deal now to make sure we’re all happy with the deal and then look for a date, look for a venue, and let it happen”

Parker wants the fight to happen in the UK and believes a win would throw him back into the mix for a world title shot.

“Yeah, I think if we can make that happen it will be for the mandatory. I’m just keen to keep fighting, you can keep in shape and train as hard as you want but you always want to fight”.

Oleksandr Usyk currently holds the WBO title and is speculated to have a rematch against Anthony Joshua in May or June. However, with the present situation in Ukraine, there is a chance this bout might be postponed.

In any case, a win for Parker or Joyce is likely to result in one of them becoming mandatory for the WBO title.

So far, Parker has had an up and down career by defeating the likes of Andy Ruiz and Dereck Chisora but losing to Joshua and Dillian Whyte. Does he have what it takes to beat an undefeated and experienced heavyweight in Joyce?

Since becoming professional, Joyce has registered 13 wins and 12 knockouts, including a standout victory against the highly touted Daniel Dubois.

The man from Putney seems to have a granite chin, phenomenal work rate, and brilliant knockout power.

If an agreement can be made, this fight is likely to happen in late Spring or during the Summer.
