Danny Garcia looking strong preparing for Errol Spence on Dec.5th

By Jeff Aronow: Danny Garcia is looking in great shape with two weeks to go before he challenges IBF/WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr on December 5th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The former two-division world champion Garcia (36-2, 21 KOs) appears to be on weight all ready for the fight. That’s how serious Danny is about this fight.

Garcia’s dad, Angel Garcia, says he doesn’t want any more “bull-s***” controversial decisions like what Danny had happened to him in his defeats against Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter. As far as Angel is concerned, Danny deserved the win in both of those fights.

For that reason, Angel says Danny will be looking to knockout Spence (26-0, 21 KOs) and take his titles from him in front of his own fans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Spence vs. Garcia will be shown on Fox Sports PBC on pay-per-view on December 5th.

“I’m going to go in there and take his titles away from him in his own hometown,” said, Danny Garcia.

“We’re not going to put it in the judges’ hands no more,” said trainer Angel Garcia. “Danny has got to do what he’s got to do.

Angel is still upset about the scoring for Danny’s losses to Thurman and Porter, and that’s why he wants him to knockout Spence. Danny’s chances of knocking out Spence are a lot better now than they were earlier last year before his car crash.

Spence’s accident has changed everything, and there’s a lot of unknowns about whether he can continue as an elite fighter after the injuries he sustained in that fight.

If Danny is going to take Spence’s titles, he probably will need a knockout because it’s going to be hard to win a decision against him. Spence will likely box more in this fight because of what happened to him in the car crash.

Spence also took a great deal of punishment in his last fight against Shawn Porter last year in September 2019.

He knows that was a close call with him winning a narrow 12 round split decision. Danny hits too hard for Spence to brawl with him as he did against Porter.

Mikey Garcia: Spence will win

“I think it’s going to be very interesting and it’s going to answer a lot of questions,” said Mikey Garcia about the Spence vs. Danny fight. “One of the biggest questions, including myself, is Errol Spence the same after his accident a year ago.

If he is 100%, I think Errol will win the fight. I think he’ll beat Danny by a decision, but it’ll be a good fight. Danny isn’t a little pushover either. Danny is a world-class fighter, but I think it’ll be a good fight.

“Everybody wants to see how Errol is after the accident and a year layoff. We have no plans right now, so I don’t know,” said Mikey when asked if he’d be interested in fighting the winner of Spence vs. Garcia.

Mikey Garcia knows first hand what it’s like to be inside the ring with Spence after losing to him by a one-sided 12 round decision in 2019. Angel Garcia says Mikey “ran” all night from Spence, and didn’t even try to win the fight.

Spence was too good for Mikey, and there’s a good chance that he would have knocked him out if he’d been more aggressive. In other words, if Mikey didn’t run, he would have been knocked out by Spence.

Given that Spence will be using his boxing skills more in the fight with Danny Garcia, that increases his chances of going the full distance.

It’s better for Spence to play it safe for this fight rather than to get in the trenches with Danny and wind up getting caught by one of his hard left hooks.

The accident that Spence was in changes the variables for the fight, making it necessary for him to box and avoid mixing it up with Danny. Spence may be saying that he’s going to fight aggressively, but that’s not likely going to happen.

Mikey wants a rematch with Spence

“I kind of want to wait for what happens next year,” said Mikey. “I’m willing to fight anybody there, whether Danny, Shawn Porter, or Keith Thurman.

“If that could lead to a fight against Manny Pacquiao or Errol Spence, I’m all for that. But we got to wait and see.

“I can’t ask for a different fight if boxing has uncertainties. 147 is where I’m going to be right now, but my most comfortable weight would be lighter at 140.

“If you follow boxing, do you think I’m going to get a title fight at 140 knowing that both fighters are with Top Rank, one of them being Jose Ramirez, a friend of mine.

“So what am I going to do at 140? I probably won’t land a title fight, and that’s why I’m campaigning at 147.

“I think there are big fights at 147 regardless of a title. Shawn Porter, possibly Manny, Keith Thurman, or a Spence rematch. There are some big fights, and that’s why I’ve decided to try and stay at 147,” said Mikey.

To get a rematch with Spence, Mikey will need to beat one of the popular Premier Boxing Champions welterweights like Thurman, Porter, Pacquiao, or Danny Garcia. Spence isn’t going t give Mikey a rematch after the way he beat him.

It would be good for Mikey to start looking in another direction from Pacquiao because he might not be willing to fight him.
