By Tim Fletcher: Next month in 12 days from now on October 3rd, HBO will be televising a special called “Road to Golovkin/Lemieux. The special will highlight the fighter’s October 17th fight on HBO pay-per-view between the two world champions. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) will be defending his IBO/WBA middleweight title, and the 26-year-old David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) will be defending his IBF 160lb title.

The fight card is taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York. There has been a lot of talk from Lemieux’s side about what he’s going to do to Golovkin when he gets him inside the ring, and we’re going to find out if the Canadian fighter can back up his bold talk or not on 10/17.

In the co-feature, super flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez will be defending his title against Brian Viloria.

Boxing fans can view the “Road to Golovkin/Lemieux” special on 10/3. The starting time is at 12:15 a.m. ET/PT. It’ll be on after HBO Boxing After Dark. The special will give the fans a look into the training and lives of the two fighters to tell them how each of these big punchers got to where they are today.

Golovkin is seen as the favorite by many boxing fans due to his unbeaten record and the way he’s been totally dominating everyone he’s faced. With Lemieux, he always has a look of a fighter that could lose even when things are going well for him.

Neither of these two fighters has much in the way of experience despite both having impressive looking resumes in terms of wins and knockouts. This fight will be a step up for both of these big punchers. The winner will likely be the one who connects with the first big shot.

Golovkin has taken the U.S by storm with his sensational string of knockouts that he’s had since his fights first started being televised in the United States three years ago in 2012. Before that, Golovkin had been fighting over in Germany and winning over the German audience but not becoming a huge star like other German fighters such as Arthur Abraham and Felix Sturm. It wasn’t until Golovkin came over to the U.S where he started to become really popular.

Lemieux, a Montreal favorite, has turned his career around since losing back to back fights in 2011 at the hands of Joachim Alcine and Marco Antonio Rubio. In both fights, Lemieux started off well but then faded at the halfway point.

Lemieux has improved somewhat in his stamina department. But in his last fight against Hassan N’Dam in June of this year, Lemieux faded at the halfway point of the fight and looked really bad. It was only because Lemieux had knocked N’Dam down four times in the first half of the fight that he was able to win by the scores of 115-110, 115-110 and 115-110.

Besides the October 3rd date for the Golovkin vs. Lemieux special, it will also be televised on the following dates: October 4 (10:00 a.m.), 5 (9:30 a.m.), 6 (4:30 p.m. & 1:15 a.m.), 7 (9:45 p.m. & 1:35 a.m.), 16 (1:45 p.m. & 12:00 a.m.) and 17 (9:30 a.m.).
