Khan: Mayweather will beat Pacquiao

khan67000By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Amir Khan believes Floyd Mayweather Jr will be too good for Manny Pacquiao when the two of them get it on in their fight on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan thinks Mayweather’s slick fighting style will give Pacquiao problems, and he sees him winning round with his single pot shots to the head.

Khan’s not sure what kind of game plan Mayweather will bring to the fight. He suspects he might take the fight to the 36-year-old Pacquiao in order to prove a point that he won’t be backed up by him or cowed by his heavy pressure.

Khan thinks that Pacquiao will have a chance to win the fight if he can rough Mayweather up, and force him into a slugging match. Khan believes that Pacquiao could hurt Mayweather if he catches him with a big enough shot to the head.

“I think Mayweather will take the fight,” Khan said via skysports.com. “He will be much smarter and he’ll pick his shots a bit better. He’ll make it a little boring at times because Manny, as we know, is a come-forward fighter who likes to do a lot of punches. But Mayweather will try to avoid all those punches and just maybe throw that one shot that will count and then move away again.”

It’s hard to predict how Mayweather will fight Pacquiao. You can expect Mayweather to stand and trade with him in the first four rounds of the fight, however. Mayweather tends to go toe-to-toe with his opponents for the first four to five rounds. If he’s not able to dominate the action with this kind of strategy, then he chooses to box them.

If Mayweather comes out slugging on May 2nd, he could catch Pacquiao by surprise, because he and his trainer Freddie Roach seem to be under the belief that Mayweather will be using movement to box him. If Mayweather slugs for four rounds, he could throw Pacquiao off, especially when he starts boxing him from the 5th round on.

“I’ve been watching Mayweather train on social media, and he’s training really hard so maybe he’ll come with a different game plan this fight, something we have no seen before,” Khan said. “He might put pressure on Pacquiao to show that ‘look your pressure does not work against me’ so it’s going to be a good fight, but I favor Mayweather more.”

Honestly, who knows how the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will go? I don’t think Khan has a clue how the fight will go, and he’s just flapping his gums and making wild guesses.

Khan went on to say that he wants to fight Miguel Cotto next at a catch-weight. Good luck waiting for that to happen. I don’t see Cotto giving Khan a fight, and I definitely don’t see Cotto agreeing to give Khan a catch-weight if he were to agree to fight him. I mean, why would he? Why give Khan a handicap when it’s not a fight that will catch the boxing public’s imagination? Cotto would be doing Khan a huge favor by fighting him right now, because Khan doesn’t have a large enough fan base in the U.S for the fight to attract interest.
