Is Amir Khan the most frustrating man in boxing?

By Chris Cook: Amir Khan 28-3-0 (19KO) faces off against former WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo 35-8-0 (18KO) on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr – Marcos Maidana on May 3rd at the MGM in Las Vegas, Nevada. The self proclaimed ‘King’ Khan divides opinion more than most amongst boxing fans, with his electric hand speed and ability to throw endless combinations, counteracted by his questionable chin and his willingness to get involved in tear-ups that he does not need.

Some call this exciting, I just find it frustrating.

As a British fight fan I’m on the side of the fence that believes Khan has the ability to be one of the best in the 147lbs division if he sticks to his strengths and listens to trainer Virgil Hunter.

I agree that the Khan-Collazo fight is not worthy of co-support status (No matter what Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says) on a Mayweather card, but it is just what Khan needs after being out of the ring for what will be just over 12 months come fight night.

Collazo, somehow ranked #3 by the WBA, is coming into the fight off the back of a 2nd round KO of ‘vicious’ Victor Ortiz but Ortiz should now be referred to as ‘vulnerable’ as he doesn’t look anywhere near the fighter who beat Andre Berto in 2011.

I see this being a comfortable night for Khan providing he sticks to the game plan. But let’s face it, we know that has a chance of going out of the window, along with any hope of a Mayweather fight should he lose this one.
