Khan: I’ve got a better fight than Alexander

khan3334By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) revealed today how confident that he is that he’ll be getting Floyd Mayweather Jr. as his next opponent. Khan seems to be dead certain that he’ll be getting the fight against Floyd despite Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer saying that there’s no guarantee that Khan will get that fight next in May.

Khan turned down a fight against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander because of the prospect of him fighting Mayweather. If that fight doesn’t happen, then Khan will be stuck with nothing to show for the last 12 months of his career.

Khan last fought in April of 2013, and if he sits around trying to get a fight with Mayweather until April or May of 2014, he’ll have been of action for 12-13 months. To be honest, it’s no big deal if Khan gets the Mayweather fight, but IT IS a big deal if Khan doesn’t get the fight, because he’ll have wasted a year of his career and missed 2-3 paydays.

Khan said this on his twitter when someone told him that he’s scared to fight Devon Alexander “Scared. LOL. Last person that’s scared. I have a better fight.”

Khan then said this about Tim Bradley for no apparent reason “Bradley got scared and would never fight me. Offered the fight a lot and he refused.”

It is true that Khan was trying to get a fight with Bradley and that he didn’t want to fight Khan. Bradley thought it would be better to wait until the bout got bigger and eventually Bradley signed with Top Rank, and that pretty much ended any hope of Khan and Bradley ever fighting due the Golden Boy vs. Top Rank obstacle.

Mayweather hasn’t given any hints about who he plans on fighting next, but he’s going to have to name his next opponent sooner rather than later if he wants it to be a big pay-per-view event. If it’s going to be Khan as his opponent, then it would be much better if they name him as soon as possible in order to try and drive as much interest in the fight as possible. Believe me, a Khan-Mayweather fight will need a ton of marketing in the United States to get fans interested in seeing that fight.
