Canelo can’t catch Floyd Mayweather

canelo846By Hector Sanchez: Let’s get the record straight.  The sweet science will usually always prevail when it is against a slower opponent.    Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez” admitted to ESPN after defeat “He is a fast fighter, more so when he is hitting lightly.  His punches are not powerful, so it makes them faster.”  That in itself is something we already knew, and now Canelo has seen it first hand.  But what everyone has forgotten to mention is that most Floyd Mayweather Jr. opponents are not only cherry picked, but this time he went to the ultimate level of choosing someone that he knew he had no chance of losing to, unless Canelo got lucky like Marquez did against Pacquiao.

In his latest opponent, the Mayweather clan made it sure that the so-called best would go against the inexperienced and younger Canelo with every advantage possible.  That is shameless for a fighter who everyone is brain washed into thinking is the best.  Although I will admit he is the best at one thing, and that is, the best at choosing fighters that are at a disadvantage of winning against him.   For his latest opponent, the Mayweather clan made it a deal breaker if Canelo mentioned that they had asked for the catch-weight of 152 lbs.  They even attempted to spin the story and blame it on Team Canelo.  What a joke.  They already had the age, experience and weight advantage, yet they still asked Canelo to drop his weight in hopes that they would have one more advantage.  Oh, and by the way, Floyd walks around at 151.

The weight advantage plan back-fired somewhat, because the weight loss actually didn’t hurt him, it made Canelo a little quicker but, unfortunately it wasn’t in his hands.  Canelo was forced to fight the boring slugger against the boxer fight, and everyone already knew who would win that battle.  The only fighter that would have put more pressure on Floyd was the great Julio Cesar Chavez, because he would have cut off the ring and eventually walked his opponent down and knocked him out.   Go back and see Chavez’ famous fight against Meldrick Taylor back in 1990.  Taylor was never the same and was knocked out again by Chavez four years later.

In Canelo’s defense, who wouldn’t sign a contract to become a millionaire for fighting twelve rounds? And speaking of rounds, if Floyd is such a good fighter, why didn’t he demolish the 23 year old inexperienced Canelo.  This is only one example of why Floyd is not as good as everyone thinks.  If you were to ask former champions like Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Marvin Hagler and even the Hitman, Tommy Hearns, they would probably say “We fought the best during our time,” you are not even close.

Canelo could be the next Golden Boy, but it won’t be for several years, and that will be perfect timing for Floyd to deny a rematch and once again duck the better fighter.  He is still ducking the Pacman who lost his last two fights, and the last one by knockout.  If he is so “Money” then why doesn’t he fight the Pacman?   The Pacman would make him more money than any fighter in the world.  Keep ducking, that will be your true legacy.
