Boxing’s Bits and Pieces: Canelo beats Trout

trout77By benjijr: When the loser Austin Trout accepts defeat the controversy doesn’t last. WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez won last night, period! His win makes for bigger and better fights, so let’s sit back and enjoy the future of boxing! Canelo vs. Miguel Cotto anyone?

For those of you thinking that Zou Shiming doesn’t have what it takes, think again and stop underestimating the matchmaking at Top Rank. Remember what we thought of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr? Well, now he is a star and almost knocked out the middleweight champion of the world. can you imagine a Wilfredo Gomez in our times under the matchmaking of Top Rank, he could have been 100- no losses and 90 KO’s.

The opening of Showtime is way more exciting than that of HBO and the production hypes up the event by doing it the classic way, they even present the stars attending the event. All we miss is for
current or former world champions to greet the main event fighters at the ring just before the fight.

Open Scoring sucks! It killed all the drama when I found out in the ninth or tenth round that Canelo was way ahead.

Who the hell is that Omar Figueroa kid before the main event with his 1st round knockout win over Abner Cotto. He was so focused and humble, and reminded me of a young Marco Antonio Barrera. Sometime you can just tell by one fight and demeanor when a fighter is destined for greatness.
