Steve Feder, the manager for the 29-year-old Kayode, said to RingTV “Roy and I are talking directly, and it’s been a real pleasure trying to work this out with him. We’re both trying to do it sooner rather than later.”

If this fight gets made it’s going to be sad for Jones Jr. because he’s likely going to lose and possibly get stopped. Kayode is fighting arguably on a much higher level than Jones is at this point in Jones’ career. I have no doubts whatsoever that a young Roy Jones would box circles around Kayode, beat him by a lopsided decision or by a knockout without getting hit much.

However, Jones is so far past his prime that it’s not even funny. What’s sad is that Jones is still fighting and what’s even sadder is that you’ve got a lot of top contenders that want to fight him still to be able to get a payday and to add his scalp to their resumes. It’s meaningless because Jones is so far past his prime. It’s not as if guys like Kayode would do well against a prime Jones, at least I don’t think so.

Jones is coming off of a 10 round split decision victory over light heavyweight Pawel Glazewski last June. Jones was knocked down in that fight and didn’t look good at all against someone that he should have been able to destroy if he’d been younger.

Kayode recently fought to a 12 round draw with Antonio Tarver last June. Kayode was staggered multiple times in that fight. Tarver later tested positive for a banned Anabolic steroid.
