Image: Is Mayweather Jr. a cherry picker?By Dominic Sauboorah: Floyd Mayweather is without a doubt one of the best fighters pound for pound in the world today. He’s fought some top opponents such as Oscar De La Hoya, Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo and many others.

Nevertheless in every fight that Floyd Mayweather has gone into he has always been the overwhelming favourite, thereby suggesting that Mayweather has never gone into a fight whereby the public believe that there is a good chance that he could lose.

Over the years Floyd Mayweather has proven that he’s a unique fighter that’s very hard to beat. His solid defence and precise counter punching make him a nightmare for most fighters; however pound for pound contenders might beg to differ. Personally I believe that if Floyd Mayweather were to fight Sergio Martinez then of course Mayweather would be the favourite, however not an overwhelming one. Sergio Martinez has a very stiff and sharp jab. He also throws a tremendous straight right hand, a shot which Mayweather has had trouble with in the past. Sergio Martinez is more powerful than Mayweather and is also very hard to hit, like Mayweather, but nevertheless if he were to fight Martinez then I believe that Mayweather could be able to get a win, however it wouldn’t be easy at all. Even Manny Pacquiao could give Floyd Mayweather problems, considering the fact that Pacquiao’s an awkward south paw that throws hard punches from bizarre angles. Again Mayweather would be the favourite going into the bout, but it would be a tough night’s work nonetheless.

Floyd Mayweather is a talented boxer who has fought some great names. Nevertheless he considers himself “the best” without beating pound for pound contenders such as Manny Pacquiao and Sergio Martinez. Two tough opponents and if he were to beat them his legacy would be sealed and he’d be recognized as one of the greatest of all time. His refusal to fight these guys however is tarnishing his career because Floyd Mayweather claims not to be “all bark and no bite” yet that is exactly what he is showing to be. He even said that he could beat Sergio Martinez and Manny Pacquiao without actually doing so. I really do hope that Floyd Mayweather fights at least one of these guys, but if I’m honest I really can’t see that happening.
