Image: Bradley tops Pacquiao: June 9th 2012, the day Boxing diedBy Mark Havey: Last night was much more than just a low point for Boxing. People now know that there are things happening behind the scene, things that we don’t see. I’m sure that capital changes hands and favours are granted in return for future privileges.

I won’t name names, but everyone knows what I am talking about. Manny Pacquiao has been betrayed by people he trusts and people who should be looking out for him.

I have seen many Mayweather fans on this page saying the result was right. I know they don’t believe it. they have eyes and every expert knows Pacquiao won. I’m not saying this to hate on Floyd. I’m actually a Mayweather fan, however I have eyes. And I believe in this motto ‘be a fan of the sport, not its stars’. I will always pick boxing over the boxer. I have re-watched the Fight with the objective of favouring Tim Bradley. I gave him all the close rounds and of course the rounds he actually won, I still couldn’t come close to the judges result. So I tried again. Still no luck. I believe they had picked Bradley to win before the fight. Or were more likely to have been told Bradley must win.

But I was impressed with both fighters. Pacquiao seemed to roll back the years and Bradley had the heart of a lion. That shocked me. I thought his heart and chin would let him down. Pacquiao hurt his brave opponent with relative ease, but once Bradley was hurt he would hang on, literally. He hugged in most rounds. But his chin has made him a star. And credit where it is due, he made a serious effort to avoid a head clash. It happened but not often.

Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley are the victims in this. The headlines should have been ‘Pacquiao wins, but Bradley proves himself to be a indisputable warrior’. I haven’t seen anything like that. All I have seen is ‘Pacquiao robbed. Bradley is the luckiest man on earth today’. He isn’t getting the respect he deserves.

The fact is, people have now lost faith in boxing. Pacquiao hurt Bradley often, but didn’t get hurt himself, not once. It should have been a proud day in which we could brag about the warriors we have in boxing. We spend our lives defending our sport. People say it’s for thugs, MMA is better or boxers set a bad example. Like me, you are likely to always be able to respond. Not today. People will say boxing is corrupt, and what can we say back?
