Kell Brook: I’ll get Khan, don’t worry

By William Mackay: Kell Brook (27-0, 18 KO’s) has had no luck in trying to get a fight against former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO’s) no matter how hard he tries to entice him to get in the ring. Khan and Brook has been trading insults on twitter and in the media. Brook merely wants a fight against Khan, but doesn’t see Brook as being worth and seems to take it as an affront that Brook is even asking for a fight.

Speaking on his twitter page, Brook said “Nice to see Queen Khan slating me once again to the media. Can’t wait to make him do that silly dance again…We’ll get him, don’t worry.”

Khan in turn is fluctuating by setting up conditions that Brook has to meet before he’ll fight him, such as he needs to win a world title or he needs to beat former Khan opponents like Marcos Maidana and Zab Judah before he’ll fight him.

Khan told fighthype.com “Tell him to win a proper world title and maybe I’ll give him a chance.”

I don’t think that would change a thing. Brook could turn around and beat the WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko, and I still don’t think Khan would fight him. He’d likely suggest that Brook fight and beat Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather Jr. before he’d fight him, as if getting a fight against either of those guys was a piece of cake. I think Khan just doesn’t want any part of fighting Brook. Because it’s silly for Khan to set up conditions that Brook has to meet before he’ll fight him when Khan beat a lesser fighter than Brook in Paul McCloskey last year in April and McCloskey didn’t have the kinds of skills or power that Brook has going for him. Khan still fought him, though. It seems like it’s less of what Brook has accomplished and more of what kind of danger he presents to Khan.
