Lemieux, 22, was blasted out in the 7th round by the much more experienced Marco Antonio Rubio last April in somewhat of an upset win. Lemieux was poised to fight for the WBC title at the time and the loss messed things up for the young Canadian. However, he sees the defeat as a blessing in disguise as it showed some areas that Lemieux needs work on, such as his defense and his conditioning.

Lemieux came rushing out in the first few rounds trying to take Rubio out. When the Mexican continued to fight calmly, Lemieux began to wear down slowly but surely and by the 6th round, he was now getting lit up by the hard hitting Rubio. In the 7th round, Rubio finished off Lemieux with a series of power shots that caused Lemieux’s trainer to throw in the towel to save his young fighter from taking any additional punishment.

Alcine, 35, hasn’t done much since losing his World Boxing Association title in a 6th round TKO loss to Daniel Santos in July 2008. Alcine won a couple of fights against Eric Mitchell and Christophe Canclauz in 2009, but then was stopped in the 1st round by Alfredo Angulo in July 2010. Since then, Alcine has fought only once, fighting to a disappointing draw against Jose Medina last August.

Lemieux has got to win this fight if he’s to stay relevant in the middleweight division. Lemieux is currently ranked at number #3 by the WBC, but if he loses this fight you can expect Lemieux to be dropped much lower in the rankings.
