By William Mackay: David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) seems to be enjoying being slammed by IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO’s) after losing a wide 12 round decision to him last Saturday night in Hamburg, Germany. Wladimir has been skewering Haye ever since, teasing him for his toe excuse and for fighting such a passive, safety first fight. Haye, instead of firing back missiles, has been busy trying to get Wladimir to give him an immediate rematch before October. Wladimir thus far has been resistant to this idea.
Haye said this on his twitter page today: “Just saw Wlad’s new video rubbing my face in it. Its actually quite funny. :-)…Wlad deserves some quality gloating. His silent pho-toes videos a good start. Looking forward to him bringing the head. Should be fun.”
What is this? Is Haye some kind of glutton for punishment? It’s a little odd that Haye seems to be enjoying this. Of course, there could be a tactical reason behind all this. Haye could be trying to look like a wretched creature in order to get sympathy for Wladimir with hopes that he’ll feel sorry for him enough to give him a rematch. I think it’s the wrong strategy if that’s what Haye is trying to do. He needs to keep talking trash and make Wladimir angry enough to want to fight him again. I mean that’s how Haye got the fight with him in the first place. If it works, he needs to come up with more excuses and start trash talking all over again. But not this sympathy bit. It’s sad.
